How did you get into anime?

Although my first anime was back during early childhood (back when anime programme block was a regular thing in Indonesian television). Vulcan just really started following anime seriously during junior high school back in 2012 (classmates are into Attack on Titan and Sword Art Online during that time, and we often chatted about latest anime airing during class break. A friend was also into osu! and we played together).

So, kbin anime, how did you get into anime? Share your story here.

Crunchyroll is good streaming site, cheaper than Netflix. I'm also curious as to the replies, but I started with Cowboy Bebop movie, Full Metal Alchemist, and recently watched Akira for the first time which was amazing. Chainsaw man and one punch man great first seasons too. Pretty much anything Netflix ruins with a live action remake is worth ignoring and seeking out the source material. I'm a new subscriber to crunchyroll and just started watching The Witch of Mercury, really good so far, it's a Gundam anime which is fun as you can buy kits to make all the Gundam robots and is a super fun hobby!

Thomasnotused,

My first anime was Death Parade, and I just fell in love right away. I found the stories to be much more engaging than many of the TV shows I was being exposed to at the time (and since, tbh), along with the visuals being easier to actually see; unlike the direction that many other forms of media seem to taking these days making everything so damn dark you can't see what's going on.

I don't remember exactly which series I started watching beyond that, but I remember Bleach being one of the most memorable. After that, I branched off into a bunch of different genres.

Early years of Toonami. ‘Nuff said.

As a kid, I watched Pokemon as long as I can remember, but, outside of Pokemon, didn't really watch any anime until I was in High School, when a friend recommended SAO. After that I went into a bit of a frenzy, and not very long after I got into manga (which, like with anime, I read Pokemon years before properly getting into it), and that's where I am years later, mostly a manga fiend.

I watched pokemon as it aired back in the 90s. Didn't know it was anime lol. I got into anime/manga proper in middle school when a friend introduced me. This was probably around 2006/7 or so? Naruto and Bleach were my first introduction really. Sailor Moon and Card Captors as well.

Back when I was a kindergartener, Heidi would run a lot on TV. I didn't realize it was anime back then. Later I would read through all the manga at my local library, stuff like Dragonball, Yu-Gi-Oh and Hunter x Hunter and watched Pokemon when I came home from school. I took a break and came back years later to watch SAO and liked it a lot.
Kill la Kill was the first show I followed on release and actually engaged with the anime community online. That got me completely hooked and into watching new anime each season.

@VulcanSphere A PS2 game, Ultimate Ninja 5, on a store of used products back when I was on my early teens. This made me curious and I started checking stuff out. And around 2015, I got a PS Vita, which aggravated my interest.

MewMew,

Pokémon on cartoon network. Then the
animax channel.

timetravelingnoodles,

I watched Kiki’s Delivery Service as a kid and fell in love with it but couldn’t find it again for years. A guy I was friends with in middle school knew what it was and showed me Manga and other anime on Adult Swim and I was hooked with Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell immediately. Haven’t stopped watching since

First anime I remember watching was Dragon Ball (Saban dub). Other than watching whatever aired on TV (Samurai Pizza Cats, Sailor Moon, DBZ, Pokémon, Digimon, Zoids, Tenchi Muyo), the first anime I seeked out directly was Naruto, after hearing that the sub was a lot better than the dub (spoiler, it was). I’m not a super hardcore watcher or anything, but it’s pretty cool to see how the shows and the fandom evolved over time.

I had just started university 10 years ago when I would constantly hear people around me mention Attack on Titan. I had no idea about the show, but was curious enough to figure out what people were so hyped about, so in I went. And now, I'm still waiting for that damn final episode!

I think my first ever anime was My Neighbor Totoro, along with other Ghibli films like Kiki's Delivery Service and Castle in the Sky.
Toonami did the rest.

Someone on 4chan of all places recommended I watch Cowboy Bebop. Probably the only wholesome byproduct of that entire site lol.

shillbert,

I started with Kill La Kill thanks to 4chan (well actually, seeing it hyped up so much on both 4chan and Facepunch.)

Maeve,

Hey now, Samurai Jack too.

First was Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac in the late 80s, then didn't really get back into anime until Dragonball and then Bleach (what kept me liking anime for good). Recently, I've been digging One Piece and Gintama, among all the other genres.

I was up late one night, can't remember why, and Adult Swim aired the first Evangelion reboot movie, I've been watching off and on ever since.
