I still have a happy social life and I am totally satisfied with the wonderful communication I have in the #fediverse since 2018. On my own instance. Because decentralisation ;)
(I still miss Google+, apologies if that doesn't fit your agenda ;)
My family and friends that really care are on Signal. And don't forget that I am old. So I still have a landline and actually use my mobile phone to ... make realtime calls with actual people ;) And I run my private e-mail server since 18 years and use e-mail quite a lot to stay in contact with other people. Newsletters and mailing lists are old school but still going strong :)
I am absolutely NOT saying "Do as I do". But I am saying that you should decide for yourself what mental load is tolerable and limit your connections accordingly. I was stressed by Facebook and its barrage of stressors they put in my timeline. I felt out of control. So I simply stopped using stuff that causes me stress. Am I missing out at times? Sure. But that's perfectly fine with me.
