@geographile Terrain... the gray spots on the east are above where the fire started. The ones in the middle were likely blocked from the wind, based on the video I saw.
@ai6yr@lisamelton woof; it’s worth noting that some of those buildings marked as “not destroyed” are partially burned according to video I have seen, or were cement structures and have extensive internal fire damage even though their roof is intact.
@karlkatzke@lisamelton Yes. An earlier count from a satellite company was counting "intact roof" as undamaged, when it was clearly the building had been turned to soot, but the metal roof survived.
@ai6yr Those rows of Mansions in China that are "abandoned" have plenty of tenants in other areas that are upset that folks keep eyeballing their bowls.
@deewani Yup, pretty familiar with this. I am only on social media because I started posting on Hurricane Maria (only person with awareness of what was going on in Dominica), then shortly afterwards we had the Thomas Fire, and I found what I do here was useful (told by a lot of people my posts saved their life or that of their relatives, situation awareness to get out before they were overrun by fire).
@ai6yr It is true. People like you (when the #birdsite was the best place to find this info) have saved countless lives. I always used to say #birdsite search box > google search box during an emergency, sadly that is breaking down. Glad there are so many people still cross posting for others.
@ai6yr People like me always looked there during wildfire season and especially the 2020 wildfires and passed that on to people in my life so they could prepare/evacuate. Everyone needs someone in their life with situational awareness. And your wizadry with the sattellite imagery is unparalled. Thank you for sharing your talent with the world.
