i dont see tornadoes as a big threat to me in Chicago. but, i also dont want to be considering 'where is the safest place for me?' while a tornado is actively bearing down.

there have been some serious outbreaks of tornadoes very recently, and theyre ongoing. stay safe out there folks, and take a few moments; learn how to react if you are in tornado danger, and where is the safest place in your home

I’m interested in a lot of transit activism in N America but I swear people would think you’re a total weeb if you talk about transit in places with good transit. Trying to imagine talking to people in Singapore or Hong Kong or Seoul about.. loving trains

I think they would back tf away from me and run away.

Like my friend always says ‘I don’t want to be a transit fan. I just want great transit’

rustoleumlove,
@rustoleumlove@mastodon.online avatar

@skinnylatte nope. people love trains.. there are railfans all over the world. even in ...maybe especially in places with good transit.

Singapore has a very nice railfan website for its system https://www.sgtrains.com/ includes a simulator - experience what it's like to be a train captain

https://www.sgtrains.com/bve.html

there's a Japan railfan clun open to the world
https://www.jrc.gr.jp/e/

& so many youtube channels by railfans around the world too

the wto protests were a turning point for me as a college student, that's when i learned that the news media can lie, and that militarized police are the ones who overwhelmingly initiate fear and perpetrate the violence accredited to protestors on the evening news. i guess a new generation of college students is learning about this now, probably the most important thing they'll learn on their campuses in 4 years tbh

rustoleumlove,
@rustoleumlove@mastodon.online avatar

@seachanger yeah. experiencing this stuff for yourself is .. something. i have plenty of stories involving police violence, & protest. but i'll never forget the media coverage of Baltimore during the Freddie Gray protests. i'd lived there for decades when the media descended..

.. & produced insane distortions of reality, seemingly with the sole intent to villify the citizens of baltimore & those standing up for human rights, & exalt the very destructive & extremely violent police force

i'm so sad for the people who are choosing to defend a genocide instead of supporting students who are sick and tired of seeing palestine and its ppl reduced to rubble. annihilated. destroyed.

is there a world in which people can stand up for the rights of palestinians to defend themselves? why does only one side get to enjoy a dream of future security while the other side lives perpetually in an open air prison camp that has now been bombed into oblivion

"The Why Files" is a youTube channel that regularly has videos with over a million views. They started as a kind of paranormal/fringe science channel that was mostly harmless, and that often debunked conspiracies.

But, they've moved beyond that in to material such as suppressed patents for cars that run on water. And treating climate change like it's a unresolved question. This has made their audience grow.

The things is they aren't just spitting lies. 1/

@nadiaalbelushi@mastodon.social avatar

I don't wish to upset Ukrainians but they surely must realize by now that the war in is between 2 empires: the US Empire & the Russian Empire. Ukraine is cursed by geography. It'll never have true independence or sovereignty. It's destined to become part of either Greater or Greater (cough cough), the latter of which is currently a US vassal, but won't be forever. In any case, Ukraine has no good option. It'll always be under foreign suzerainty.

rustoleumlove,
@rustoleumlove@mastodon.online avatar

@nadiaalbelushi wow. imagine applying this argument to any other strategically impotrant or geopolitically disputed region. that might include afghanistan, taiwan. palestine, kashmir, tibet.. just for starters off the top of my head... the suggestion that 'just give it up folks, bc you're gonna be a part of some greater authority one way or another'... i'm gonna be very nice and just say this is one hell. of a fucking take.

yesterday the US & Europe contributed aircraft and firepower (Navy and Air Force) to “help” shoot down Iranian missiles and drones — you know in addition to the massive “iron dome” defense system that we pay for.

imagine if we cared for gazans or Ukrainians like we care about Israel! Imagine if we cared about poor Americans like we care about israel! I cannot with this country

Me: Nope - they removed my uterus.

Doc: Are you sure? You look young. Maybe it was your appendix?

Me: I know the difference between my appendix and my WOMB.

Doc: Orders pregnancy test anyways

We really need to discuss how AFAB patients get treated by many doctors. If you need to do a pregnancy test on everyone as a matter of course - then just do the test. But don’t waste time arguing with me about whether I know the difference between an appendix and my LITERAL womb when I’m having a life threatening cardiac emergency.
