I'm playing in on a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 and... it is struggling!

It's running on a Razer Blade laptop I bought second hand to experience with PCVR and computer graphics, but I'm still a Mac user for work. This makes me reluctant to buy a powerful new PC as it feels rather excessive just for gaming... uh, on this particular game...!

I was thinking of getting an eGPU, but the cost is also pretty high once you throw in a Razer Core X or similar casing 🤔 Thoughts?

@elizabethtasker VR needs a lot more power and 1060 will struggle, even 4060 on a laptop will struggle to play VR on a laptop for demanding titles.

Don't buy an external GPU enclosure, they are a rip off.

If gaming is your only need and you are not into PC building and PC gaming, a PS5 + PS VR would suit you best.

@elizabethtasker although I recommended the console, PCVR can still have a great experience and you should not be discouraged to give one more chance.

Your Razer Blade with 1060 was many generations old, the newer ones are very much capable and the PCs have come a long way in terms of power/efficiency/design since they have competition from M1 MacBook.

Check out ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14. The newest one released recently would suffice you for a great VR gaming experience.

@mountdiscovery I have a Meta Quest 3, which I'm very happy with and so don't want to switch headsets to something like the Playstation (I use VR for a lot of work stuff too, and there isn't quite as much support for the Playstation etc).

I think the question is simply whether there's a cheaper option to buying a new PC, which is quite an expense for a small fraction of what I do in both VR and work.

@mountdiscovery It sounds like there's really no way of getting around just replacing the Razer Blade. I'll check out the ASUS ROG Zephyrus, although I don't actually need a laptop so I might do better with a desktop for money... Thank you for the recommendation!

@mountdiscovery A Google just taught me that a PS5 + PSVR would actually be cheaper than a new PC, so I could buy that as a second headset in addition to my Meta Quest 3 for less money, and focus on gaming for the PS and other VR-apps for the Meta Quest 3.

That's a really interesting idea, and I hadn't considered that! I think there's probably enough PCVR stuff I'd like to still prefer a capable PC, but that was a whole new idea... thanks!

@elizabethtasker

PC gaming allows you exceptional flexibility.

... to turn settings down to experience the game anyway, where a console developer might have said it's "last generation" and not available.

So no, I have no suggestions to fix that issue. I have the suggestion to use the flexibility you already have and try the vast amount of games that do work.

(1060 is the MINIMUM requirement. Of course it's not going to give you top performance)

@bmaxv I am not remotely surprised that the 1060 is not handling this easily 🤣 I'm pretty impressed it does as well as it can, and you are right that tweaking all the settings makes it usable. I'm just wondering whether there is a cheaper option than replacing the whole computer, but it sounds like it's not worth the money or effort in attempting to shortcut this.
