@jackyan Perplexity is doing old school internet search (Sources) here and then just using a pretty dumb LLM to distil some sort of coherent answer from them. 'Retrieval augmented generation' or RAG. We have seen this sentence "Jack Yan is a renowned...particularly in Google SEO" before and that is because it is coming from one of those sources. The good news is probably that it isn't baked into the LLMs training set yet. I know you can't whackamole these shitty "Latest Google SEO" .../1

@jackyan ...but you would think it would be in Google or Bing interests to. For them it's a classification issue, it is easy for us being human to spot them.

Imagine a world where you could have a search engine where you could mod the results up and down by relevance, reputation, etc.

...or instead of reinventing reddit just put reddit at the end of your search... :/

@nf3xn I wonder if the old Backrub principles still apply today, as the crap sites donʼt have anything credible AFAIK linking back to them. Google et al donʼt have to rank them highly. Keep it at first principles and the internet could be saved.

@nf3xn Thank you for clarifying. Iʼm trying, and a few have changed their initial BS to the truth, but it is going to be worrying if the LLMs incorporate low-ranking rubbish. Or maybe thatʼs a good thing as itʼll render them useless.
