I thought my five-year old 9.0 phone might be obsoleted by my provider changing some of their network configurations, but I was able to edit the APN settings.

It stopped doing LTE briefly too, failing into a no-data 3G state, but a restart cleared that up.

Think I'm good for a while longer. I really like to not succumb to the 2yr change cycle target the industry works on.

@ottaross Hi, thanks for sharing. Good to know I can do this if needed. I’am with Chatr, hopefully I won’t have to google how to change those settings back.

I use Android 9 also, and have been wondering how to extend my phone’s “life”. Branded batteries almost impossible to find. I had to use an alternative, hopefully It won’t be a problem.

@dancingdogs your service provider should have instructions for settings changes if needed. I'm with Koodo and they had the details, though the right menu spot was deeply hidden.

I've always had good luck with non branded battery changes in my equipment so you're probably okay with that.

@ottaross
I've been using the same phone for over 4 years. In a sane world, this should be the norm, not the exception.

@ShaunOttawa exactly. I was thinking about how many decades my mother's wall phone must've been there. Can't imagine if they'd obsoleted that every two years.

@ottaross Maybe this'll sound like bragging, but I've gotten at least 5 years out of my last 2 iPhones. Or I've given them to a friend who manages a few more. OS updates are available for about 5 years. It makes the iPhone pretty economical in the long run.

@dan613 I'm still using my now ten year old phone as a camera with plus an FTP server, which is handy for lab/workshop use. I'll probably replace it with my current phone at some point in a similar mode, as it's so handy to have.

MMS pic sharing was busted for a couple of weeks, but just tested to find that's working again too. :)

I think my phone barely squeaks in under the wire for LTE support, but looks like it's enough for now.
