Our cat Tigger has been missing since last Sunday.
He was wandering unsupervised in the back garden in his jacket & leash as he often does, but got tangled, wriggled free, & was off before we spotted him.
He usually comes back within an hour when this happens, although once in 2018, he was gone for 4 days.
We even had the local volunteer tracker dog folks come around yesterday & try to establish the likely zone he could be in, but with so many big houses & gardens around here, it’s hard to narrow it down.
Of course, your mind runs to all sorts of terrible scenarios, but we’re trying to remain optimistic that he’s alive, hasn’t been stolen, & isn’t trapped somewhere.
The weather has been warm & dry all week, & there’s plenty to hunt & eat in the bushes & woods if he’s free.
Yeah, pretty awful not knowing, and I really hope he returns on his own.
If it gives you any comfort, my daughter is a shelter vet and sees strays come in that have been lost for weeks. The ones that are chipped get reunited quickly, so hang in there. There's still hope!
@friz Thank you, Sam – that’s a welcome piece of positivity. He is chipped & we’re monitoring all the usual animal welfare sites, so we’ll try & stay hopeful 🤞
We’ve posted flyers & gone door to door asking the neighbours to look in their (often very large) gardens for us, checked the animal welfare sites & vets, plus I go out every night calling his name for 45 minutes while walking the streets & parks when it’s quiet.
But after nine days, I’m getting quite despondent & unsure what else we can do to get him home 😩
@rdrimmel Thanks, Ronald – appreciated. Yes, we like to hope that he’s just out & about in the warm, dry springtime, enjoying himself while callously ignoring us & dragging us through torture. If he returns, we’d forgive him that in an instant – the alternatives don’t bear thinking about.
@markmccaughrean does tigger have a digital id tag, these usually help a lot in recovering lost animals. In any case I hope things work out well. All the best.
Yes, he is microchipped & registered with the various animal welfare agencies & vets, but of course someone has to find him first & take him somewhere where there’s a chip reader. I’ve just come in from my nightly walk around 3-4km of the neighbourhood, streets & woods, calling his name, in case he’s lost. But to no avail so far, unfortunately.
@apolitosb Apologies for missing this while travelling yesterday, Jason, & thank you for your kind words. I remain hopeful that he’ll return, but after more than 10 days, it’s hard not to fear the worst.
@finestructure Thank you, Sven. It’s hard to feel optimistic after more than a week, but what else can we do? It’s the not knowing that’s so depressing … 😩
