Carter,

Of course not why would I?

Exusia,
@Exusia@lemmy.world avatar

I do. Full subscription. Originally I had Basic, but with banners and stuff being added I thought “ah fuck why not?” I spend a lot of time on the platform as staff for a large server, and frequent 2 or 3 others so I’m much more visible as a flagship and interacting with users than most normal users. I dont feel like the average user needs full nitro, but I can break down how I use/see the various features.

spoilerI dropped my 2 boosts on some friends servers, our server is partnered and doesn’t need them, and I feel like boosts are…a silly money extraction tbh. I use animated emotes frequently and emotes from other servers (and animated emotes from other servers) so that feature is worth it. Increased file size is a godsend. I know this is artificially restricted and discord could be less stingy for free people, but for paid getting bigger uploads has helped tremendously when I have to use modmail on various servers. Send image proof? Easy. Video evidence? Done and done with that increased limit. Banner? I like it tbh. Not necessary but I like it. In tandem with this is setting my own colors for profile. I have never once used Remix. Super Emojis has got to be the dumbest fucking thing I have ever heard of. You get like 5 per week, and is the first feature I go out of my way to use so I can justify its existence. Dumb as hell. Streaming is nice. I dont usually use it but it is nice to be able to stream in our channels at max. I feel like this one is artificially gimped by Discord to get you to pay, so YMMV. I don’t use this feature often.

Lmao no

It’s a chat room app. So long as I can chat in the rooms, I don’t need anything else. All the stickers and doodads they offer with the subscription are completely meaningless to me.

HerbalGamer,

discord is just somehow very unfriendly to use for me.

Wahots,
@Wahots@pawb.social avatar

No, I dislike discord and only use it because friends use it. Half the time it seems to switch inputs or beg for subscriptions and I can’t even upload a screenshot because “your files are too powerful” lmao.

It’s basically Microsoft Teams for gamers. But teams at least allows full file uploads.

Eagerly awaiting a superior platform to take over.

MashedTech,

Remembered the days when you had to pay for a Mumble or Teamspeak server?

Philolurker,

Don’t know about Teamspeak, but you never HAD to pay for Mumble. You could just run the server on any machine you wanted, including the same one as your client.

I assume you still can, for that matter.

xigoi,
@xigoi@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

No, because I hate Discord and only use it because many people refuse to communicate with anything else.

Klear,

Yeah. It replaced message boards of old but it doesn’t fill the same purpose. It’s next to impossible to build a knowledge base there, for instance. It is optimised for an endless stream of shitty memes, though.

Moghul,

Yes, basic for the emotes.

Some interesting attitudes in this thread towards people who pay from people who don’t pay.

Appoxo,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Nope.

Rhoeri,
@Rhoeri@lemmy.world avatar

Wtf is that?

scottywh,

Hell no

zacher_glachl,

Man I wish my friends were still using teamspeak.

notExactlyI20,
@notExactlyI20@lemmy.world avatar

Vencord is a thing, so no 🤔

Gorgeous_Sloth,

Never heard of it. Looks really great !

PeWu,

FakeNitro really comes in clutch here

meekah,
@meekah@lemmy.world avatar

does that support streaming my monitor/applications with sound?

notExactlyI20, (edited )
@notExactlyI20@lemmy.world avatar

AFAIK one of its patches lets you stream in native res or full 4k60fps (something that only nitro lets you), so yes, I think it does because it patches the client adding stuff to it, and not actually removing it, so it should work just fine (Im sorry I mostly use it for the community theming and some minor patching, can’t say more about it). Here’s a video if you’re interested in it tho

Anti_Weeb_Penguin,

Dollars are a luxury here so no.

flameguy21,

Don’t trust anyone who paid for Discord

paddirn,

I’m not really sure what the point is. I use Discord regularly, but have never seen any ‘must-have’ reason to get Nitro.

whereBeWaldo,

Same here, couldn’t care less about cosmetics on an app that I use to chat with friends while playing games. Non-cosmetic advantages aren’t really that great either, there are always better ways of file sharing when you get caught onto that 25mb limit. I guess it may differ for people frequenting on public servers though.
