Even still, each battery pack and the 6,000lb car put more strain on the mines, factories, and roads. Those resources could be used for stuff like ebikes where you only need a fraction of the power to get the bike to move forward.

EVs have their place, but eventually we are going to have to reckon with a post-car reality. Building trans, trams, BRTs (fast bus lines) and bike lanes will make cities faster to get around, without having to own a vehicle to get groceries a mile down the road. Making sidewalks comfortable and wider will also make stuff feel less shitty.

We’ll probably get to a point where you can rent a vehicle if you really need it for remote areas, but day to day, you can pocket that insurance/maintenance/fuel/depreciation money and use it on something else.

EVs are heavy. While they vary by make and model, the sedans like Lucids around Vancouver BC and WA weigh 5,200lbs without any cargo, bike racks, ski racks, or people in it.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucid_Air

Sedans to SUVs also weigh in the 3,500-5,200 lbs when empty. electrek.co/…/how-much-does-a-tesla-weigh-compari…

Electric trucks (not pickups) are also getting more popular, and will also need to be factored into things like updated crash barriers, bridges, offramps and older city roads built on top of thin concrete structures from the 1900s. It’s going to cost cities a lot of money if we don’t emphasize a reduction in cars and trucks going forward. We should be pushing rail and bikes harder.

Biden Administration Tightens Mileage Standards to Buoy E.V.s | The new rule requires automakers to achieve an average of 65 miles per gallon across all models by 2031. (www.nytimes.com)

The new standards require American automakers to increase fuel economy so that, across their product lines, their passenger vehicles would average 65 miles per gallon by 2031, up from 48.7 miles today. The average mileage for light trucks, including pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles, would have to reach 45 miles per...

A step in the right direction, but it should be even higher. The car industry should be complaining about it, not happily agreeing to it.

All that aside, we also should start priorizing the many other ways of getting around cities and states that don’t rely on cars and planes so much.

Bullet trains, crashproof bike lanes, and wide pedestrian paths should take priority. Give people options, and it makes life way easier.

Some are 25% now, and don’t even break the bank. You can get modules that store the power and feed it back into your house for use later. I kinda want to get some to offset heating and cooling costs.

We’ll get as many as possible to vote. It almost seems unfair that others in the world don’t get a say in such an important election, since Biden winning could save the world from another world war. The stakes are once again, very high.

15 billion dollars lost, lol. Way to choke at the worst possible time. Good luck making up that shortfall.

I really wish they shipped cookies! I want to eat some over here. Commenters are very lucky the baker removed their names, lol.

Judge Anthony Gabbert said that the school district’s reasoning for excluding RMA, which was that he had female genitalia, was not a valid reason. Gabbert said that the district “did not actually determine the nature of RMA’s genitalia.”

God, we live in such a wild world. Arguing over a child’s genitalia, jesus. Can’t we focus our energy on literally anything more important? If he says he’s a boy, he’s a boy. The school district doesn’t need to see evidence and should focus on a quality education like they are supposed to do. This is so unprofessional, it’s almost beyond belief.

Long term, NYC ain’t going anywhere. Those businesses will be there. The city isn’t going anywhere. Transitioning away from cars when we’ve invested billions into them sucks, but the transition from ICE to EVs (and fewer cars) is happening now and is the best possible time to do it, before we have to rebuild roads, bridges, and crash barriers for much heavier EVs. Taking as many cars off the road with trains, buses, and lots of protected bike lanes will save us a lot of money further down the road (heh), even if it sucks short term.

It’s curtains once they find e621. Might as well break out the programming socks and IT jobs now, lol

Artifical land was never going to last. These areas were stuff like wetlands and mangroves before. When next super hurricane destroys them, they probably should be abandoned and turned back into wetlands and mangrove forests again, to hedge against further erosion. We could help lower income areas out financially when this happens. IDGAF about wealthy people’s summer beach homes or the $17m properties, though.

Early flat design, around the WP7 era, was good. Modern flat design has a lot of wasted space and a lack of descriptive text :<

Almost all existing vaccines work against bacteria and viruses, there are currently no vaccines against fungi anywhere in the world, and there is just one type of vaccine – the anti-malarial one – against parasites. Parasites often have sophisticated ways of evading a host’s immune system. They adapt to their hosts during complex life cycles, involving several developmental stages. “Each one of those stages, either in an animal or a human host, has different proteins that are expressed in the different life stages. And that makes it more complicated to identify what the targets could be of the parasite for development of a vaccine,” says O’Brien.

This life cycle complexity is one of the reasons that parasites aren’t always easy to culture in a laboratory. In other words, it can be tough to simply produce more of them under controlled conditions, at the right stage of development, for research purposes. Possibilities including cultivating parasites in research animals or in a laboratory, rather than in their usual hosts.

They are also much more genetically diverse, and usually affect lower income countries. But various vaccines for different parasites hold promise. And some of the vaccines’ technology might work on eventual HIV vaccines, too.

This is what Watters is afraid of with ice cream. The same with Top Gear host Richard Hammond, who declared in 2016 that he doesn’t eat ice cream, explaining that his refusal has “something to do with being straight.” In 2018, Wiz Khalifa said that any man eating a whole banana is “sus,” and that he should be breaking it up into little pieces before he eats. Social media is full of men joking that popsicles, corn dogs, and pickles are all too risky.

If you cut up a banana into small bite-sized pieces and tell me that the reason you are doing so is to avoid speculation that you might suck dick, I will take your hand and tell you that you need therapy, immediately, lol. You aren’t even in the closet. That’s like the attic, maybe even the roof.

Same thing if you say that about ice cream or certain meats or something. That is insane, lol.

I guess you can get a free pass to eat these foods during Pride Month, though. We’ll allow it. xD

Sea-tac?

Wahots,
@Wahots@pawb.social avatar

If this is Sea-Tac, the rails are completely walled off. Doors open onto the tram only when it arrives. Everything else is walled off, like an elevator.

No shit, it’s run by the Falun Gong, not exactly the bastion of free and unbiased reporting, lmao. How does anyone think they make money off a free newspaper dumped all over rural areas? xD

I’ve got bad news about other Falun Gong ventures such as Shen Yun, too, hahah.

Wahots, (edited )
@Wahots@pawb.social avatar

Family went to Shen Yun once. First half was like, beautiful dancing. Then the second half, they basically locked the exit doors as some white guy got up on stage and started spouting the weirdest shit about a golden UFO and crazy political stuff. Shaved a few years off my family’s lives, wondering if they were gonna get out of the building or not, lol.

Wahots,
@Wahots@pawb.social avatar

Luckily, I dislike the CCP as much as I dislike the Falun Gong. Their invasion of privacy and treatment of Xinjiang and LGBTQ people is appalling. Not to mention the other regions they control, or the countries they try and coerce, like Taiwan or other nations in the South China Sea.

I’d love nothing more than to have Xi step down and get replaced by someone progressive and modern, in the western sense.

I think they are worried about liability, if I had to guess.
