@ChrisMayLA6@tomgauld@bookstodon I always find it odd that people are so passionate about saving pubs for socialising related reasons but the same cannot be said of public libraries. My public library's summer book club was a terrific social experience when I was growing up, it saved the summer holidays in many ways
@ChrisMayLA6@bookstodon (libgen and scihub are "living in the future" for me - if everyone has something like the great library at their fingertips we'll live in a better world)

Forgot Vote! All those local township, county, sheriff, zoning, treasurer, etc. & school board offices matter to an area's sanity level.
@ChrisMayLA6@tomgauld@bookstodon the town I live in has ripped up a huge swath of parking lot and is currently- in today's day- building a brand spankin new library from the ground up. It also happens to be walking distance from me and literally next to my city garden plot... I'm still surprised it's actually happening but so stoked.
Maybe there's a risk with this, but I appreciate that my property tax bill breaks out the price of the library.
I'm of the "I'm spending the dough, I'd better use it." flavor, but I can imagine the "why do I have to pay for it if I'm not using it" person existing.
@ChrisMayLA6@tomgauld@bookstodon One of the most important places whether you live in a city or smaller places is the library, both for knowledge and mental health
