Hey, cyclists:

Any suggestions for where to hide an Air Tag on a bike? I’ve seen a few videos, and there are some good ideas there, like specialty bells and reflectors and cap tops on the handlebar connections. But my thinking is, if videos are being made about those locations, then bike thieves will also be learning where to check for them.

Feel free to DM me if you have any sneaky suggestions.

@reay Put two on, hidden in different places. Decent odds they give up looking after they find the first one.

@sumek One of the leading options, for sure.

@reay don't put it inside any metal bits as it kills the range. under the saddle works well, as it's very inconspicuous. especially if you have a seatpack fitted

@wav3ydave Interesting point about the range.

My only concern with under the seat as it seems an obvious place to start with/check.

Wondering if maybe it could be taped up under the seat cushion somehow, without chaffing or looking obvious... 🤔

@reay depends on the saddle i guess. if it has fairly thick padding you might be able to insert it somewhere?

@wav3ydave The best suggestion I saw was wedged between the tire and the rim, because thieves would need tools and time to bother checking there.

But while it seems a good option, I don't have the tools or time to do it myself. :)

@reay you can get a muc-off valve holder to do that if you're running tubeless and your tyres are big enough: https://off.road.cc/content/review/accessories-misc/muc-off-stealth-tubeless-tag-holder-44mm-valve-kit-review-10675

@reay @wav3ydave If someone steals just the seat then it hardly makes the expense and effort of having an Airtag. Not sure how much help you'd get in finding a seat.

@reay Crank shaft. Right where you tighten it. No one will ever notice. Just cover the Apple logo.

@Mrfunkedude Interesting. That exposes it to elements and blah, but that could work. Thanks.

@failedLyndonLaRouchite Yeah, I suspect more companies will realize the potential there. Early days as yet, though some of the accessories I’ve seen are well done.

@failedLyndonLaRouchite The bottom bracket, I’ll have to check out. Thanks.

I’d thought about one of the tubes but it’ll rattle there. Not only a telltale sign for thieves, but irritating every time it’s ridden anyway. 🙂
