I really get annoyed that RPM packages are not commonly supported and that converting a DEB package into an RPM isn't always straightforward or guaranteed.

@Linux_Is_Best No flatpak?

(Please don't kill me)

@bruce

VPN's should be installed system-wide.

Flatpak are not something a VPN should be.

I agree. I find the "everything should be a flatpak" (or snap) trend is very annoying.

@bruce

I can see the appeal of putting things in a container or limiting something to a particular user.

But a VPN needs to be all encompassing. You don't want any app or service sneaking past the VPN.

SurfShark VPN which is owned by Nord VPN really should develop an RPM package.

Why wouldn't you use SurfShark VPN? If you can suggest another VPN with a quick and friendly GUI that I can use to rapidly switch locations and that works with streaming services, please do.

None of those work with streaming services.

I have looked into this and Windscribe, I even tried, for example.

I think I may look into "Private Internet Access" VPN in the future.

@Linux_Is_Best @funkybuddha Private VPN has worked with everything I've tried (Netflix, Spotify and HBO)
I'm in Sweden, YMMV.

    I was a paid subscriber.

    They make a "best effort" but they're not great.

    SurfShark VPN seems to always work.

    Netflix, for example.

    I am in the USA, but find better options in Canada, UK, and Japan.

    Windscribe would end up viewing only the Netflix created content and none of the 3rd party content.

    Netflix's version of a "wall garden"

    I think the problem is more the library and dependency version on each distribution more than the package format.

    @theslik

    If that alone were true, DEB packages would not nearly be as supported anymore than RPM packages are. Ubuntu, for example, uses DEB packages, but it is worlds apart from the stable version of Debian.
