So far I’ve received 11 requests for Fosstodon invites from this post. Some great folks from around the world are now joining here!

@adamchainz the thing I’ve been thinking about is how to leave when your audience (and salary?) are still on the hell site. Things like:

  • I’ve curtailed replies, likes, RTs
  • I’ve updated my profile to encourage others to leave (and how to find me elsewhere)
  • I’ve locked my account
  • I pinned a tweet saying I’ve left

This feels like the hard part. It’s fairly easy to personally move, but getting everybody out is really hard.

@mlissner Yeah, network effects are strong and seem to be propping up Twitter pretty well. I don’t have a good answer except try writing blog posts helping others move 😉 This is also kind of the post I always wanted to write for Twitter, to help people start. The percentage of devs not using social media is still pretty high!

@adamchainz is a very exhaustive article. 👍

@paulox Still open to suggestions though

@adamchainz something Django related to add could be @takahe and @bookwyrm

adamchainz,
@adamchainz@fosstodon.org avatar

@paulox Yeah, I wanted to avoid a Takahe mention because it’s not for beginners. bookwyrm is a different non-ActivityPub network, right?

paulox,
@paulox@fosstodon.org avatar

@adamchainz ok, I missed your goal to be beginners friendly. 👍
Just to clarify, I proposed them because they're both ActivityPub services based on Django. 😀
Takahẽ is a micro blogging (like Mastodon) and Bookwyrm is a book service (like Goodreads) 🧩

diazona,

@adamchainz @paulox No Bookwyrm uses ActivityPub.

paulox,

@diazona @adamchainz exactly 😅

phiofx,

@adamchainz @paulox there are several django based instances, i think is another. But as far as i can tell alot is still in alpha and none has seen significant adoption. Its a bit of a pity. With the large numbers of python enthousiasts and contributors such a stack could made a difference for building out the

@phiofx @adamchainz @paulox We'd welcome input from Django and Python enthusiasts on Funkwhale :)

@cda @phiofx @adamchainz thanks for sharing Ciarán, I didn't know about Funkwhale. ☺️
