jay,

💡 This is a post to help those who want to disconnect completely from Twitter without losing your various feeds there.

Finally, a solution to view Twitter feeds in one place without login... and RSS feeds too! 👍

Nodetics Feedbro:

While re-evaluating Reader utilities for the desktop, I noticed the addon for & enables you to follow feeds! It even has a 👀

jay,

Yes, this is going to be great! ✨

I can move all of the Twitter feeds I follow into the addon & rebuild a personal network on ! ✌ 😄

FYI - The default article count per feed is 20, but I decreased mine to 10. I also changed viewable max age to 1 week. I may modify it further in the future depending on how the total feed count impacts my system.

jay,

As more people are finding my posts about the Feedbro plugin, I want to show you one helpful modification you can make once you get your feeds added and organized. You can configure the plugin to open the "All Items" feeds category directly by pressing the Feedbro icon. This makes accessing your feeds quicker.

jay,

💡 Interesting Factoid:

So far, I've manually reviewed 550 accounts I follow on Twitter to move the feeds into Feedbro.

Approx. 30% of these accounts haven't posted in over a year or more, so I deleted them.

I suppose this is why Twitter doesn't display recent activity metrics - users have been inactive on Twitter for years... and have even removed the Twitter logo/link from their main Web sites. 👀

jay,

To help speed up my --> feed migration, I located a free portable macro recorder / playback app named

App Download:
https://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/tinytask_portable

While Twitter makes it insanely difficult to easily migrate any user account data (even the downloaded archives only have links with account IDs and not account names), the ability to record and playback mouse movement and click interactions makes the repetitive task more manageable.

Automated screen User Interface (UI) interaction recorded and played back using the TinyTask portable Windows app. Unfortunately, not all Twitter account headings in this example contain the same number of text rows, so the playback cannot be performed continuously - the list needs to be occasionally manually adjusted vertically.

jay,

I completed migrating my feeds into ! 🥳 🎈

At the end of 2022, I consolidated my multiple Twitter accounts into one final account and combined my "Following" list entries which dated back to 2009, for a total of 2469 entries. Over the last month, I pruned all "Following" entries not posting in a year or longer, which was 424 of them. I was left with 2045 accounts I was "Following". 17% of the accounts I followed on Twitter had become defunct! 👀

I find this metric of interest.

After migrating Twitter feeds into the Feedbro Web browser plugin and determining recent feed activity, I deleted all entries that had not posted in a year or longer, or 424 accounts (17% of my "Following" list). After this pruning, I was left Following 2,045 accounts on Twitter on March 5, 2023.

jay,

The pruning activity was nostalgic. I was reconnected with the many companies hoping to find success in the most recent VR wave beginning in 2015 - many who had begun creating VR games, physical VR locations for public use similar to old videogame arcades, tactile wearables, etc. There were also several indie GameDevs seeking startup capital. I admire their commitment and determination, and for taking the needed risks, but most simply went out of business or failed to raise the necessary funds.
