Can some of my #TechMastodon help me make a decision regarding a new 2.5G eth (min) DHCP/NAT gateway (NO WiFi plz!) for my home network? I'll accept small biz solutions too.
@jann Have you looked into Firewalla yet? If you're on cable, you'll see need a "modem", but after I tuned the firehose of data from my Purple a fair bit, it's been really great.
Seems almost perfect - except the limitation of 1G ethernet to both WAN and LAN. Also, no option to buy from Amazon (which makes returns a LOT easier).
@jann If you've got the money I think the new models support better than 1gbs, though are also overkill in almost every other way, but maybe that's a good thing. 😆
@cavorter Looking at Gold Plus now... 2.5gig on each port. (reasoning, my 7800mbps netgear WiFi 3 channel adapter has 2.5gig - as does my cable modem and my network runs multi-gig (1-10gig)
Just don't want the one thing communicating with the world to be my bottleneck.
