According to data from the Committee to Protect Journalists, as of October 30, as many as 31 journalists have been confirmed dead. This includes the four Israeli journalists who died during the Hamas attack on October 7. Out of the rest, 26 journalists are Palestinian and 1 is Lebanese. The vast majority seem to have died because of Israeli airstrikes.
Mona Chalabi has cited her source as Committee to Protect Journalists. Casualty figure is from October 28. It has gone up since. The 50 journalists figure seem like a baseline rather than an absolute figure, based on a mention in a report by RSF about 50 local journalists in Gaza who had to leave their homes in Gaza city.
