jrg,

What do people even use for a phone nowadays (not Android) other than the ... are there any out there nowadays.

@jrg Most activity is in former Android hardware that is being mainlined (sdm845, e.g., OnePlus 6), and then there's always @droidian

yombo,

@linmob @jrg @droidian Can you share some hashtags?

@jrg @droidian @yombo #LinuxMobile #MobileLinux #Mobian #postmarketOS maybe? We try to boost relevant stuff, so you may just follow :-)

jrg,

@linmob @droidian @yombo I really miss my N900. I saw a video of someone running sailfishOS on an fxtec pro 1 but finding information about it is all from two to three years ago. Is that particular phone dead? It looked awesome but they are forever 'Out of Stock'. I'm guessing they are probably out of business?

@jrg I recall they had problems, as they were hit by their SoC of choice for the Pro1 and Pro1x, the Snapdragon 835, suddenly being unavailable. They then had to move to another SoC, including software - stuff like that certainly breaks the bank, and the delays did not lead to happy customers.
I sadly have no idea what the current status is. @droidian @yombo

@bradlinder, @tuxdevices : Any idea what's going on with f(x)tec? Thanks in advance! @jrg @droidian @yombo

@linmob @bradlinder @jrg @droidian @yombo not sure either, they disappeared from my radar since 1/2 years and I wonder if the company will last.

Having switched to a SD662 SoC was not a terrible choice in my opinion since it is indeed slower, but also newer, more efficient, and still supported in mainline.

jrg,

@tuxdevices @linmob @bradlinder @droidian @yombo The youtube video floating around showing sailfishOS on it looked amazing. I almost went out of my way to get one until I realized you don't see any information anywhere on the internet past 2 years ago. In my mind that means that most of the projects are dead. That's a shame because it looked so promising and well... I really want a hardware qwerty back. 😢

@jrg @tuxdevices @bradlinder @droidian @yombo There's Ubuntu Touch 20.04 support https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/device/pro1x (sadly: "Last commit on 12/3/2023"). The Sailfish OS port (https://github.com/sailfish-on-fxtecpro1/droid-config-halium-qx1050, please double check it supports the hardware you intend to buy) is actively maintained by @piggz who, as I know first hand, has done amazing work for PinePhone (Pro).
Honestly, given the alternatives, just try it out 🙃
