Everything, Everywhere, All at Once.

I'm so glad I knew literally nothing about it. What a rare treat to be surprised like that.

Melkath,

Just watched this today.

Ya, I feel like if someone tried to explain to me what it was, I wouldn't have gotten half of what I got out of it.

Yeah I feel like the trailers gave away the unique nature of a lot of scenes.

Skanky, in What are some movies that are best experienced going in completely blind?

All of them. Fuck trailers that give away major plot points.

NotMyOldRedditName,

I stopped watching trailers about a decade ago now.

Sometimes I watch them after and they never cease to amaze me in how much they spoil.

Though trailers being free and giving away all the action and plot is awesome when you lack money to see said movie. It’s basically a super condensed version that they just give away! I’ve seen 19 movies this year and it only took 26 minutes and $0.

*only kind of a joke

you know you can always sail the high seas instead of begging for movie scraps

Won’t somebody please think of the shareholders?!

(but yes)

state_electrician,

Agreed. Although I still like trailers to give me an idea of the general vibe.

Yeah it’s still good. :)

pmk, in The Sting (1973) ⭐ 8.3 | Comedy, Crime, Drama

I remember seeing this movie as a kid! Time to watch it again and see if it holds up.

istoff, in The Hunt for Red October (1990) ⭐ 7.5 | Action, Adventure, Thriller

I sometimes watch this around Christmas with Die Hard. They share the same writer I think. Alan Rickman and Sean Connery share the same quote about Alexander the Great. .

WormFood, in Hidden Figures (2016) ⭐ 7.8 | Biography, Drama, History

I enjoyed this movie a lot but was also disappointed to at just how fictionalised it was

Crackhappy, in The Hunt for Red October (1990) ⭐ 7.5 | Action, Adventure, Thriller
@Crackhappy@lemmy.world avatar

I still watch this around once a year. A very good movie despite casting a Scottish man with a thick accent as a Russian.

Why does “sheldon” suit “Sheldon as an engineer” so well?

Pronell,

Two reasons, I suspect.

One, he’s a little typecast.

Two, he doesn’t have that great range as an actor, or hasn’t demonstrated it yet in a way that directors have noticed.

Iapar,

Lots of great suggestions below already, thought I’d add The Prestige. Peak Nolan in my opinion, and definitely benefits from going in blind.

metallic_substance, (edited ) in Don't watch new roadhouse

What a wonderful and perfect suggestion. That movie sucked. It sucked the moon right out of the sky.

I really like the idea of using this community to caution people away from bad new movies where the reviews are still settling

Habahnow, in Don't watch new roadhouse

Haven’t seen the original, but the new one was pretty boring. Jake’s character was sort of interesting, but not enough to make a whole movie about him. I’ll probably try the original one to see if its better.

ours,

The original is pure ridiculous fun.

bane_killgrind,

The original character is great. Both are on prime right now, but you could probably find a DVD rip off the first one.

RampantParanoia2365, in What are some movies that are best experienced going in completely blind?

All I knew about The Matrix was it had karate, and the slow mo looked cool. I walked out and said “I have no idea what I just watched, but it was amazing.”

harsh3466, in Don't watch new roadhouse

I love the original, and enjoyed the remake.

bane_killgrind,

I also like Jake Gyllenhaal, but this movie missed so many opportunities.

harsh3466,

That’s totally fair.

For me, I fully admit that the new Roadhouse isn’t a good movie, however, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
