Dunstanburgh Castle
Once the largest castle in the county, it was built between 1313 and 1325 and was originally owned by Thomas, Earl of Lancaster, nephew of King Edward II.

In 1362, Dunstanborough passed into the hands of John of Ghent, the fourth son of King Edward III, who rebuilt the castle on a large scale. During the War of the Red and White Roses, Lancaster Castle was fired upon and destroyed.
