@EgyptianAphorist @jalcine As somebody who struggled in school even with many advantages, I can only imagine the brains and tenacity of those grads.

Think of how much human potential we are wasting with our absurd level of incarceration. How much further could we be as a society if we didn’t have 1.2 million people behind bars?

daniel,

@EgyptianAphorist wow, so much respect for these scholars. I hadn’t heard this story, here’s a link I found for anyone interested: https://apnews.com/article/prison-degree-graduation-yale-new-haven-fde5d30dff9fd84dc1a7dc2d7c594abf

kkarhan,

@EgyptianAphorist aka. those that may have the least likely chance of high revicidism.

EgyptianAphorist,

@kkarhan I had to look that term up. Here’s a definition for others who might need it:

Recidivism refers to an offender's tendency to relapse into criminal behavior after being punished or rehabilitated

It is a fundamental concept in criminal justice and is often measured by criminal acts resulting in rearrest, reconviction, or return to prison

Recidivism research is embedded throughout criminal justice topics of incapacitation, specific deterrence, and rehabilitation

kkarhan,

@EgyptianAphorist correct.

Thus they have the best starting conditions given the prison system in the USA as-is.
