@GottaLaff
🤬🤬🤬🤬

As someone who got a good public school education, but never had kids in schools, I consider my school district taxes an essential service & payback for what I received. But i’ll be damned if I think those public funds should go to private religious schools or home schoolers.
parents absolutely should have the choice of where to educate their kids, but not at the expense of public schools/taxpayers. I want my $ to go to making public schools better, teachers paid.

@GottaLaff@mastodon.social avatar

@PandaChronicle 100% that. I went to public schools, my kids went to both public and private (after public was forced to slash arts and music programs)

hope they'd be ok with a madrassa teaching radical interpretation of Islam

@RainCityBunnies Let's give it a try.

@GottaLaff should be a quick case for the court. This stuff has been chewed over for decades and is settled law.

So was Roe, and the VRA.

    @PJ_Evans I live in CA and the charter schools here are taking funds away from public schools that are not charter. I’ve written a lot about this in the past. They’re not benign in CA. @WagesOf

    @PJ_Evans @GottaLaff @WagesOf Unelected power was eventually broken or eroded in many countries by elected government which restrained unelected power & wealth.
    Ever since the “economic Royalists” (as FDR called them) have worked to undermine, corrupt & and take away the control of government from the electorate.
    This is just one of those ways. media control is key in this. all of the media is in the hands of economic Royalists we are in trouble.

    @voron @PJ_Evans @GottaLaff no war but class war.

    There's nothing more dangerous to the oligarchy than the proles learning that they're at war and the identity of the enemy.

    This x1000!!! Daughter is a CA public school teacher and the charter schools are decimating public education here. They take a disproportionate amount of funding and cherry pick students leaving special needs kids, and the associated additional expenses for the public schools to bear. Additionally, they have poor or no standards for teacher qualifications. It's a mess.

    GottaLaff,
    @GottaLaff@mastodon.social avatar

    @mastodonmigration Correct. And they often don't provide for special ed. @PJ_Evans @WagesOf

    I suppose there is an exception to everything. My wife teaches middle school special ed at a Georgia charter school with a significant percentage of kids on IEPs.

    Suspect that there are good charter schools, however experience around here is pretty shocking. And, of course, this is from the perspective of the impact on public schools in the district.

    @mastodonmigration Yes, there are some good charter schools. But most are not that way. @steve @PJ_Evans @WagesOf

    Plenty of stories of "difficult kids" being hounded out of charter schools and winding up back in public school classrooms.

    HS in the next suburb became a K-12 charter school. It's still public, and had a good rep as a HS before it went charter.
    My understanding is that charter schools were intended for experiments in other methods of teaching, not as a get-rich-quick thing.

    @DSWadeLPC @WagesOf Roe v Wade was settled law too.

    WagesOf,
    @WagesOf@gamepad.club avatar

    @GottaLaff @DSWadeLPC Roe was a derivation (patient privacy) of a derivation (search and seizure) of settled law. Religious schools funded by public money is a direct result of the amendment.

    I'm not going to be surprised if this passes our corrupt court, but it's not on the same level as Roe.
