@passedwonder Canvey Island is a place I need to visit someday. As someone who has always lived in Wales, Essex has a strange attraction

Essex is lovely - particularly the coast - well worth a visit.

Oil City Confidential - a film about Dr Feel good - has some terrific footage of Canvey Island.

@JuliaBarrell Probably the most unfairly maligned part of Britain! I've had (Welsh language) students from Essex and they've tended to run it down, but then maybe Dagenham and Chelmsford don't inspire the same “hiraeth” as places like Canvey!
