The only time Firefox Nightly isn't the better browser is on Android.

Mozilla does not know how to develop a full web browser for mobile devices. - I wish they did.

I use Mozilla Firefox Focus for my private browsing...i.e.... Those quick, random searches that I don't want to be sold on, just because I looked up a recipe once.

But Firefox Nightly on Android would sometimes remember those private browser searches or keep them open even after I closed the browser.

Firefox Focus was better.

Solarinas,

@Linux_Is_Best I appreciate that they try and port Gecko to Android, but overall it makes for a much less secure experience over chromium based browsers on android

I wish I could endorse Firefox on mobile, but until they have siteisolation enabled by default it's a non-starter for me

@Solarinas Firefox Focus is good.

It's a browser that does not keep cookies or cache, the moment you close the browser and has a small footprint. Great for those fast searches that you don't want to be tracked or remembered.

But for my daily browser on mobile, I use Vivaldi Browser.

Solarinas,

@Linux_Is_Best I use to use Focus, but I just use tor browser now since the network isn't as slow as it use to be

I actually use Vanadium in but its lack of in-browser ad blocking makes me a little sad. The expectation is to blocks ads on the network level but it's never as good

@Linux_Is_Best @Solarinas How does Mull compare? Or is not relevant?

Linux_Is_Best,
@Linux_Is_Best@mastodon.social avatar

@xsecur @Solarinas Mull is a fork of Firefox.

Mull is a "wild card"

It has been great, awful, and the development has been abandoned then redeveloped and honest, I lost track of it.

I think it is currently only available on F-Droid and F-Droid tells me there are more than a few forks, so I couldn't even tell you which was the official branch.

As a result, I don't know the status of Mull, today.

@xsecur @Solarinas After purging my repo list and sticking to the official F-Droid repositories, it seems they are still in development.

Mull (Privacy oriented web browser)
https://f-droid.org/packages/us.spotco.fennec_dos/

It is currently based on the stable branch of Firefox. -- I am going to try it out.

@Linux_Is_Best @Solarinas I’ve been using Obtanium to update the app in my app and haven’t looked back since instead of the hassle of having to check their source website for the updates. I’m glad that it’s still being developed.

@xsecur @Solarinas 1st impression of Mull is:

  1. Privacy browser, works

  2. Extensions work

  3. The development is on GitLab now.

That means you can review the changes. 😉

@Linux_Is_Best @Solarinas I strongly believe it deserves more recognition than it has for what it offers. It’s not an easy job maintaining a browser and it is great to see some efforts in this direction.

@Solarinas @Linux_Is_Best I use it for the rare looking up of stuff online in my device now. But I agree how bumpy their development history is and the fact that is maintained by one dev isn’t reassuring. Focus used to be my go-to when I was in iOS. I miss how it easy was to use it and the throwaway lookups it provided. Had it included an adblock it would have been perfect!

Linux_Is_Best,
@Linux_Is_Best@mastodon.social avatar

@xsecur @Solarinas Firefox Focus does have ad blocking.

It is the only Mozilla browser to include this feature.

@Linux_Is_Best @Solarinas Woah! This is something I would like to check out then.
