Seeing folks from Insomniac, Blizzard, and Obsidian attack Baldur's Gate 3 for the way they released the game REALLY makes me want to buy it out of principle.
Why are they picking on this game and didn't do so with the likes of a game like Elden Ring?

@britt This sort of developer complaining sounds a lot like saying you're bitter you can't make a game as good as BG3, which should almost certainly be GotY by a wide margin. It's a hell of an accomplishment on so many levels. I hope it pays off.
@britt If they had released on Xbox like I was hoping, this would've been an instant buy! I feel like Blizzard, Obsidian, and Insomniac folks are attacking this due to envy. That's not a good look for any of those people.
@britt Other studios projecting, wishing they had made this game. Honestly, this looks incredible. TOTK, BOTW, Eldin Ring, this, have all taught me an important lesson and that is that Im really okay with waiting for several years for a good unique massive game rather than having a yearly assassin's creed samey experience every freaking year.
@blitzgott@britt THIS. And also, regarding Elden Ring and BG3, the liberty of smaller studios that got fame through a few dedicated games combines well with AAA development if that liberty is respected. Let's hope the big actors learn this lesson. Less big games, better big games would be great.

Quotes like, “it’s Rockstar-level nonsense for scope” and that the game shouldn’t be a “raised standard” in the RPG realm. Or, “only a few studios could ever try this”.
And wait for it… “this is atypical for the games industry…”
@Chigaze@geekgyrl That's the vibe I personally take from it as well -- and the decision to say the things they said about this particular game without saying it for others that pushed the boundaries like Elden Ring... honestly intrigues me.
@hybridhavoc compared to what we've seen over the last decade give or take? I'd absolutely say so. A fully complete RPG with 17,000 various endings, no microtransactions, no DLC, no battle pass, no BS. It's really neat.
@hybridhavoc oddly... they have. There are lots of articles and videos about it out there. That's how I found out about it and it really made me go... wait... what?
@britt@hybridhavoc I swear, the ways multiple ways to tackle something in this game are incredible. So many "wait, you can do that?" moments, and I'm still running around in act 1.
@britt@kinsale42 Wait... am I reading this first paragraph right? "Yeah, you cannot expect others to bring out quality games, that's not how this works"?
I mean, sure. Smaller, more inexperienced studios may bring out less polished games, but we player usually know that. It's when big studios bring out games on a small studio level that costs a pretty penny that we're like "Wait a minute..." That's when we get miffed.
@dreadfulsanity@britt what I get is they are jealous of the resources and time Baldur's Gate had and they're worried that their games, made in less time with fewer people, will be written off as bad.
It's like saying every film has to be on the scale of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings. It's obviously not realistic and most people can recognize that.
@britt@kinsale42 I have all the patience in the world with small studios. And even with big ones, because I realize that the ones making the games aren't the ones screwing them up. I have less patience with the suits min-maxing their profits. I really wish that studios would get the resources to make great games instead of a suit getting a multi-million payout for... something.
