@rahmstorf Humanity has solved great problems throughout History. Plenty of revolutions shifted the power back into hands of the people. There's no reasons why we can't do it again.
There are people who benefit from causing fear or who benefit from us believing that we can't solve this problem. Rich people, big media corps, fossile fuel industry; they profit out of our inaction. We need to be angry and fight back!
@rahmstorf if we couldn't do it with covid we have absolutely no chance of doing it with climate change, with the pandemic people were saying they weren't dying of covid even though it was unequivocally proven that they were, if they can't agree with those indisputable facts how are they ever going to be able to deal with a subject as complicated as climate change, at some point we're just going to have to recognise that a large percentage of this planet is populated with fucking idiots.
@Vonskinnback@rahmstorf while the public image of anti COVID measures is that only a few got vaccinated and supported the measures, the facts are very different. For example 3/4 of the population in Germany got vaccinated and 2/3s got multiple shots. So the manipulated rest is not even close to a majority. However, public discourse was. And that was fuelled by the same jerks who also support fossilists and their agenda.

The speaker maybe is right, but since hardly anyone is prepared to accept reality, take responsibility and act accordingly, chances are big that indeed we're F&%$&%cked!
Still it will be good to do good things, and not be paralyzed with fear or despair.

@rahmstorf Es liegt wohl in der Psychologie der Menschen, Negativbotschaften nicht zuhören zu wollen, weil sie Unwohlsein erzeugen. Immer mehr Menschen verzichten daher leider komplett auf den Konsum von Nachrichten. Deshalb müssen wir umso mehr an einem konstruktiven Narrativ für die Zukunft arbeiten - ohne die wissenschaftlichen Grundlagen zu beschönigen. #Herausforderung
Ich glaube ja, wenn Medien und Politik die Ernsthaftigkeit der Situation und deren konkrete Auswirkungen auf die nahe Zukunft klar kommunizieren würden, hätten wir eine andere Reaktion der Menschen. Churchill z.B. hat die Briten auch nicht freundlich ermuntert, sondern eine klare Sprache gesprochen.
Das konstruktive Narrativ lautet vielleicht: Ihr habt die Chance zu überleben, 'however long and hard the road may be'.
@ThankYouForTheFish@huntebrinker@rahmstorf da wäre ich mir nicht so sicher. Ein großes Hindernis sind Lobbyismus. Die Sabotage der Wind und PV Industrie kommt ja von Lobbyisten und durch die Politik. Was dagegen hilft sind Lösungen umzusetzen. Und zwar egal was man lokal an Veränderungen anschiebt. Es ist immer erstaunlich wie wenig die Menschen von Lösungen gehört haben und wie man sie umsetzt.
Angesichts der globalen Lage, die Auswirkungen der Klimakatastrophe kommen schneller und radikaler als erwartet, reicht der Weg der lokalen Veränderungen nicht mehr. Da haben wir schlichtweg nicht mehr die Zeit für. Unsere Ressourcen werden in den nächsten Jahren durch die diversen Katastrophen immer knapper werden. Wir brauchen einen kompletten, globalen Umbau von Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft. Das erreichen wir bestenfalls durch massiven politischen Druck.
@ThankYouForTheFish@huntebrinker@rahmstorf den bekommen wir aber nicht von den Mächtigen, weil das nicht in deren Kurzfristinteresse liegt. Revolution ist auch unwahrscheinlich und kann dank Nazis auch leicht in die Fächer Richtung laufen.
Dagegen ist Transformation schon ein guter Ansatz um schnell Veränderungen herbeizuführen. Dabei muss bedacht werden, dass Transformationen meist zu Beginn langsam anlaufen und sich später exponentiell ausbreiten (wenn sie klappen).
