People who own AirPods Max: do you all like them?

I'd love to own regular AirPods Pros but I've never found a single pair of earbuds that will stay in my ear (without an over-ear portion, like the excellent Powerbeats Pros).

@grantmc Love them. Comfortable, sound great. I use them for work meetings and multi-hour D&D sessions.

@mpirnat I'm back to thinking about this again, Mike. 😅 I never bought anything.

Does the lack of USB-C annoy you? I'm a little hesitant to get a new thing that uses Lightning, because it seems like Apple is finally making the transition with iPhones this year.

Also, is the battery life okay for you? I read you have to put them in their bra case after each use to turn them off, which seems a little silly to me.

I did try some at the Apple store a few days ago and thought they sounded great, and they feel super premium.

@mpirnat I've gotten so used to the automatic switching you get from the H1/H2 chips (in my Powerbeats Pros) that I feel like I can't go back to any regular bluetooth headphones.

@grantmc I use them across multiple devices and they’re pretty good about switching. Usually they just magically connect to the right device with no fuss.

@grantmc @mpirnat I had the Max and I actually got rid of them in favor of the Pro-2s!

The maxs were nice, but for most use, I found regular airpods more confortable and portable. The killer use case for the pros is airplanes since they have better noise canceling and are so much smaller. The noise canceling on the big ones is fine, but not great. Also whenever you rotate your head, the seal doesn't hold well.

I don't like jam-in-your-ear headphones, but the pros 2 are perfect somehow

@xavdid @grantmc I haven’t tried the Maxes on a plane, but around the house/in my office they’re muuuuuch better than the Pro-1s. I don’t have any head rotation issues, but that might be a fit thing. I have liked plenty of in-ear headphones, but for some reason the Pro-1s aren’t it for me — even with trying different tips I struggle to keep them slotted correctly, and I’ve got one that squeals whenever I try to jam it back in.

@grantmc I still really like mine! Lightning is no big deal as I still have plenty of chargers and cables. Battery life is pretty great for me, but I do put them back in the (admittedly awful looking) case when not in use. But they hold up great for 4+ hour D&D sessions. I charge pretty regularly so I have yet to run them all the way down. I find them very comfortable over those longer sessions. The noise canceling and isolation is very good as well, sometimes to the annoyance of my family.

@grantmc That said, I did get mine paid for by work, so that might be a factor. But I caught them on sale for $100 off; at that discounted price point I think they’re great!

@mpirnat Thats all great. I’m glad to hear the battery isn’t a huge issue.

Maybe Postpone could hook me up with a pair…

@grantmc Amazon has them at a discount currently, but if you don’t urgently need headphones, I’d say hold off until later in the fall to see if you can catch a better price as the holiday shopping season kicks in.
