My #Stuff column this week: Why I want Apple Arcade to include classic arcade games – and why that’ll never happen • https://www.stuff.tv/features/why-i-want-apple-arcade-to-include-classic-arcade-games-and-why-thatll-never-happen/

@craiggrannell oh, that would be glorious and absolutely perfect for when you need to kill a short amount of time.

@craiggrannell Even some classic computer games from the 80s and 90s would be good. I want Lemmings with the same graphics as the Amiga original, not the garbage re-imaging with IAP. I want Zool. I want Wolfenstein 3D, Dark Forces, Sensible Soccer and Batman

@bgrinter Yeah. There’s something to be said for the originals of these things. But Apple blocks all avenues to classic gaming on iPhone, unlike Android, where there’s a thriving emulation scene and also easier access to streaming services.

@craiggrannell there's been a few like Lost Treasures of Infocom but it didn't survive the 32bit -> 64bit migration of iOS

With rumours of Apple opening up for other app stores (before they're pushed to do it) - maybe we'll see niches like this open up

@bgrinter Yep. It’s stuff like that and the odd arcade equivalent I was referring to in the feature. I recall Capcom Arcade existed for a while. And there was some other one that IIRC had a bunch of Midway titles. But they eventually pretty much all vanished, apart from a few usual suspects that survive.

@craiggrannell I contacted the devs for Lost Treasures of Infocom on iOS, they wanted to upgrade to 64bit but Activision wasn’t interested and didn't reply. Sadly I guess not a big market so I'm back playing Frotz emulators :-(

@bgrinter Weird that Activision wouldn’t even talk to them. I guess there wasn’t enough money in it.

@craiggrannell their original contact has left which helped explain it. Disappointing because it was the perfect port, it had the maps and even 3D representations of the in box freebies that Infocom included
