Awake.

Slept about 8 hours total, did have a wakeup interlude of around 35 minutes maybe, but while asleep felt like I was really deep. Sleep app graph seems to agree with that assessment.

Replied to a toot by someone in burnout recovery and how they had recently begun doing things more slowly and I heard that because it's something I've been increasingly doing in my own life. Just trying to keep myself moving at a slower pace. I feel it helps with my monotropic brain.

I was thinking about yesterday and how Ginza showed up and took her first ever nap, well, few naps inside the apartment in the afternoon. What struck me deeply when I looked at her as I was at my work from home desk is that she seemed to be sleeping like someone who needs a lot of rest in a place where she feels safe and secure.

And this year since April I've been trying to do that for myself as well? Not always successfully, but trying to make my rest more meaningful.

Slowing ourselves down in this world can be difficult because we are surrounded by people who have been immersed in the same culture that glorifies hustle and hurry, doing many things at once. Everyone wants to hurry and wants everyone else to hurry like they are.

I've eaten breakfast. Currently drinking decaf tea that I just made. Washed and smoothed my face. Changed into clothes.

Not sure how the brain is doing. Think I still need more sleep to recover from the deficit I had last week.

I had a weird and intense dream that ended with me and Tom Cruise trying to run up a path to 7000 feet of elevation because as he said, "They can't chase us up that high"

Well, yeah, that didn't work. Then I woke up.

No signs of Ginza yet. I have made sure that I've got everything prepped for when she and I start the morning sit and chat.

Yeah, I need to move slowly today and keep my pace down. Yesterday was a really good day and I did well at not hurrying myself, but even lots of good excitement eats up spoons.

Upstairs neighbor has left for work. Ginza hasn't appeared on her own yet, so I'll start going outside from time to time to shake the bag of treats and call her.

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

So I went out and Ginza was there. She's now eating breakfast

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

And it's nap time for Ginza

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

It's so beautiful to watch Ginza sleep. Makes me so happy to see her like that

About a 55 minute sit and chat with Ginza today.

She got breakfast and treats, pets and cuddles.

She played with her catnip carrot.

She took a 15 minute nap in her bed.

She explored around the bookcases and also looked a couple of times at the litter box, but she still hasn't climbed into it yet.

I'm almost wondering this morning if she decided not to show up outside my door until she saw my upstairs neighbor leave. She's pretty smart and might have figured that out.

Need to start thinking about what I'm going do for calories and nutrition for lunch. Something small I think.

Want to save appetite for dinner using leftovers from the roast chicken and veggies I made on Sunday

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

Weather might be iffy later on and I don't know if my own sense of ability to do so will hold on, but I might take a 20 minute walk after work today.

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

Had to find a battery for my work from computer's wireless keyboard when I returned from lunch.

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

Look who showed up!

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

And sure enough Ginza has settled into her bed to take a nap

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

And we had surprise excitement but I think it wasn't too bad and it'll be helpful with Ginza learning to handle noise outside but near the apartment. She's gotten back in her bed.

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

And yikes. Ugh, what a hard decision there. I forgot about the landscaper symphony orchestra showing up on Tuesday afternoons and suddenly I heard a lawn mower.

I'm like, "Oh gosh..."

I would love to just close the door but I don't think Ginza is ready for that and that if I tried it, even if she was okay enough at first, it might be too much for her when the landscapers get close with the power equipment. Plus she hasn't shown she can use a litter box yet.

So I took her outside,

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

gave Ginza treats, said, "I'm sorry"

I don't think she'll blame me in any sense of that word and of course she probably has her safe spots that she goes to when the landscapers show up and make all their noise.

My heart aches at it though.

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

Have eaten dinner and taken a short walk. The landscapers had caused clippings to fall into Ginza's outside water bowl, so cleaned it out and put new water in it.

So energy wise I'm doing pretty good for 5 PM.

And I certainly feel much better than I did a week ago when the caffeine withdrawal symptoms were getting really bad.

I hope Ginza's okay. I still feel like a skunk for putting her outside like that, but it was the best decision in unfortunate circumstances.

I should see her tomorrow

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

Heard of a brain region that I had never heard of before, the orbitofrontal cortex, and immediately wondered what would happen if I searched for "orbitofrontal cortex in autism" and was of course thrilled to see results that all described autistic orbitofrontal cortices as being impaired.

Impaired....

Why the pathologizing? Why why why?

What if autistics have what might be deemed superior orbitofrontal cortices and it's neurotypicals who are running around with impairments?

Happy to say I got to see Ginza a short bit this evening and she showed no signs of being upset about how I had to end the afternoon sit and chat. I knew she wouldn't, but I still felt like a skunk putting her outside to avoid how landscaper power equipment could have caused her a traumatic experience inside my apartment.

So it was a happy feeling to feed her treats and see no signs of disappointment in her.

For now I need to remember that Tuesday afternoons are not good ones for bringing

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

Ginza into the apartment.

But I'm sure she'll show up tomorrow morning and I look forward to seeing her.
