@DemocracySpot@joaocosta I deleted my accounts today. Between the racism and anti-semitism, and the soon to be implemented invasive data collection, I saw no reason to even allow my inactive accounts to exist on Xitter.
@DemocracySpot I’m still working a few of my friends who on the to "follow but not participate." They don’t quite get it yet that everyone who does that are propping up a nazi platform. It’s frustrating but I’m not giving up.
Elon banned me permanently within minutes of a post wherein I used the words, "Elon Musk" and "über alles" in the same sentence. The post did not violate TOS.
Did I leave immediately, no; did I drag fascists full-time after October 27, 2022—you bet. Do I wish I'd left earlier? Of course.
@DemocracySpot Overly presumptive on the arrogance toward Twitter-X users. Many stay because this is one of few ways to stay in touch with people around the world who don't pay attention to Musk's antics and politics. Mastodon still can't match diversity of global users on Twitter-X. Many don't like the changes to the app, but there's not a better replacement.
There is no excuse for collaborating—no, "Yes, but..." on my watch. To each their own, but if you're still Tweeting and should know better, I hold you in low (very low) regard. Including and especially big @'s who show up on my TL but treat the Fediverse like a side piece. Fuckem.
I would say, "Everybody must see it!" but it's 50+ years old, hours-long and in French. Few would. Report back if/when you do watch it. Curious to get your take.
To me, the value is seeing stories of unknown people, not-famous collaborators, and their motivations for doing nothing or actively collaborating with Vichy/Hitler.
The road to hell is not paved with good intentions; rather, it’s constructed by well-intentioned, well-educated, democratically- and progressively-minded people who know better but just can’t be bothered to be mildly inconvenienced….
