"Is it good for the Jews?" That has been a question long asked by Jewish Americans, especially immigrants and those of the second generation, scarred by memories of the Holocaust, when assessing the policies of the US government and the pledges of political candidates. Here are my thoughts on the subject. https://open.substack.com/pub/newsguy/p/jewish-voters-could-sway-us-presidential?r=1g77q&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true

IMO, the best outcome for everyone would be if Biden manages to get the ball rolling on an agreement that sets up a realistic path towards a two-state solution and Saudi-Israeli normalization in the near future. That would be a huge coup.

"Opposition groups in have accused authorities of ballot-stuffing in Monday's legislative and regional elections, where vote counting is still underway. Regional observers, however, judged the polls to be free and fair. Electoral authorities have yet to release initial results from Monday's vote, which came after lawmakers passed a divisive constitutional reform that critics say will extend President Faure Gnassingbé's grip on power.."

People would really be doing themselves a favor by familiarizing themselves with logical fallacies.

Some are better known, like strawman and ad hominem, but I highly recommend dicto simpliciter, tautological fallacy, and false dichotomy.

They all are employed far too often on social media.

I already shared an article from the ACLU regarding the rights of protesters this week but here’s another one.

There are loads of First Amendment protections that apply to everyone and everyone should know them but there are also things that aren’t covered and it’s nowhere near “do whatever you want wherever you want, zero consequences.”

Know the difference.

Yup. Take it from me. I learned this lesson the hard way as a teenager. Long story, but calling a cop "a fascist piece of shit" earned me a night in the tank and a disorderly conduct charge. The charge ultimately got dropped but it still came as a rude and disorienting shock to find out that, despite everything I'd been led to believe, 1A does indeed have non-trivial limits and also that cops have a shit ton of discretion (and therefore power) about who to arrest and for what.

Normally I can't stomach books written about US politics in the past decade or so—that goes double for anything having to do with Trump—but I will definitely be reading this.

As an old Asia hand myself, I've been familiar with your reporting for a long, long time now, so I know and trust that you'll provide a clear-cut, impartial, and no-BS view on the inner workings of this stuff. I'm sure it will make for a gripping read too. Very much looking forward to this coming out in June.

"Voting commenced in some of the precinct centers in the Sanniquellei and Bah regions in Tuesday’s Nimba senatorial by-election, with a low turnout of voters. A visit by our reporter observed that most polling staff at precinct areas arrived very early with election materials. Some of the voters who spoke to FrontPageAfrica expressed their joy to participate in the poll, saying that they wanted to perform their civic responsibility"

I wish all news sites would add what the Austrian Die Presse just added to its design: Click the little clock and you get the latest news in a reverse-chronological stream: a river of news, as @davewiner has long wished for, without promotion, repetition, and so-called news judgment.
