Fun to participate in a panel on open source that was 100% women and had absolutely nothing to do with being a woman in open source. I hope one day this will be so commonplace I don't even notice it.

passenger,

@shauna

The tech version of the Bechdel Test is two women having a conversation about something other than being a woman in tech.

The "techdel" test, if you will.

I'll add in for a tech conference giving a technical talk, not about being a woman in tech.

passenger,

This toot now has more retoots than the original, which I'm not comfortable with. Please give @shauna some love.

@maco wondering if this is is only true for open source, or for tech in general. Any of you have real life experience on this? @passenger @shauna

passenger,

@dosch @maco @shauna

I've seen it in corporate environments too. Caveat: I'm not in very serious tech, I only do data.

@dosch @maco @passenger @shauna plenty of bad experience with lack of diversity & inclusion :( For example, last week at https://2023.eurobsdcon.org/program/ : only one woman speaker & her topic was diversity; next week: 12 speakers at NLNOG: 0 women https://nlnog.net/nlnog-day-2023/ ; OTOH: RIPE86 : “14% female speakers” including staff: https://labs.ripe.net/author/hisham_ibrahim/quantifying-quality-a-community-engagement-quarterly-report/

at in 2010, 1/3 of talks had a woman on stage. How you conduct your makes a big difference to that.

@shauna Yes! I used to host a tech women's meetup, and the topics of conversation were refreshingly geeky nearly all the time.

CleoQc,

@shauna last year I had the pleasure of hosting a panel on hardware and AI, and every participant was a woman!
Not planned that way, it just happened.
