Alzheimer’s rage is really unnerving. It’s jarring to call someone and have to listen to ranting and raving about how awful you are and screaming at you for what you’ve done to them. You know rationally it’s not them ranting but at the same time it’s so jarring you end up shaking. First time I’ve experienced that. I hear it gets worse, so I suppose I should get used to it.

Vicki has told me from her time at a senior care centor waaaayyy back when she was a teenager that this experience from male patients was normal and why they typically had non-teen staff look after them.

@Warnstaff I just called to tell him I was coming by to see him on Sunday (today). It was brutal, I wasn't ready for that. I'll still visit today, and the replies I got made me feel much better in that I know so many have experienced this.

wackyIdeas,

@dancinyogi My mother developed Alzheimer’s and for her, a paranoid angry person, it was a somewhat positive thing. She forgot to be angry and forgot to be scared. She died a happy-go-lucky person.

@dancinyogi yes, get used to it.

It helps to externalize it. It’s not him, it’s something between him and the world.

Consider naming it. So you can say “I know it’s not him, it The ______”

@dancinyogi You never get use to it. But you do learn about managing your time around it. Sundowners are notorious for rage periods, as are changes in routine, or med adjustments. It’s such a horrible disease…many hugs.

I feel this. Lost my mom after about 10 years fighting this. I tried to always have something in my toolkit to defuse the situation, but sometimes it wouldn't be enough.

@Robotron I just called to tell him I’d stop by tomorrow and it was like a different person. I wasn’t prepared for that.
