The centralized, walled garden model naturally leads to building everything into one product, vertically integrating all features in the name of user and partner lock in. Elon's everything app is a predictable progression of this thinking.

Meanwhile the decentralized model naturally leads to many specialized products connected together to satisfy far more use cases than any one product could ever do.

It's like the web vs. AOL all over again and my money is on the web.

To all of you whose wonderful, kind, compassionate words and support have been so helpful, I have sad news: Father In Law passed away. Mr. Laffy just called in tears, but there was a small silver lining… FIL got his final wish and died peacefully in his sleep. That was so comforting for all of us. Alzheimer’s rage is really unnerving. It’s jarring to call someone and have to listen to ranting and raving about how awful you are and screaming at you for what you’ve done to them. You know rationally it’s not them ranting but at the same time it’s so jarring you end up shaking. First time I’ve experienced that. I hear it gets worse, so I suppose I should get used to it.

Well, my former backward-walking dog client has taken some major steps back. I've been re-hired for six sessions.

As I thought, there were a lot of changes in the household since I last saw them. Also, the owners have neglected to put their dog through his paces as far as daily training. The pup has fallen into bad habits due to extraordinary household stress, lack of attention, and the absence of a stable schedule. I left them with a list of things to work on until our next session.

'Tis a strange thing, being radically different from your family. In my case, the apple fell from the tree, rolled down a hill, caught a train, then a plane, and found itself on the other side of the planet. From physical appearance to politics, I'm about as opposite as can be. The only one I'm like is my maternal grandmother. Everyone else? Different apples from a different tree on a different planet. Amazing.

The giant blackberry pie I made last night turned out sooo good! All the subtle blackberry flavors and not too sweet and not too sour. I’m having to pace myself and not eat myself sick having too much of it!

When I was around thirteen, all of my friends had gotten boobs and subsequently cute bras. I didn’t have any boobs, but I wanted a cute bra too, so I BEGGED my mom to get one for me, which she did.

While I finally had a bra, I didn’t really have much to put in it, so I started experimenting by stuffing it with Kleenex and socks until I finally realized the shoulder pads in my mom’s 1980s power suits would be PERFECT, so I stole a pair of her shoulder pads to stick in my bra.

This went fairly well for a solid week and I was feeling hot AF until I heard my mom call me from the basement with a concerned “Aaaaaaalice?”

I was worried she was hurt so I ran toward the basement and turned the corner to find my mom standing there, dangling my bra, kind of shaking it until one of her shoulder pads fell out.

I was absolutely mortified and the silence seemed to go on for hours, but she finally started laughing with a look that was pretty much like “WTF, Alice, you little weirdo.”

Then she finally said:

“You know they make bras with pads already built in, right?”

Again, it's easier to get a gun in most states than it is to get a real education, an abortion, health insurance, or to vote, and that's not even a complete list.
GOP wants to steal your rights with one hand and give you a gun with the other. It really is that simple.

Noticing an uptick of insulting reply guys lately. It's not a huge amount, but enough to notice. It baffles me. Do they think we care about what some yahoo on the other end of a keyboard thinks? The only reason I post this now is to ask if anyone else has noticed an uptick in this behavior, and if I"m supposed to care. Perhaps I'm missing something and Joe Schmo's opinion really is supposed to mean something to me?

I've been trying to find the right way to articulate this-- but the folks on the right have it backwards about who is driven by "white guilt" --

This impulse to cover up and distort the history of slavery reeks of shame. It's, frankly, weird. Nobody has perfect ancestors, what sort of crisis of identity leads one to lie about the past.

It's just the things that happened. You learn about them you learn from them. You do better. Don't make it so emotional and personal.

My son’s prom reminded me of my own and honestly folks if you don’t immediately think Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam upon witnessing these tresses well I just honestly do not know (is a photo of me in a blue/black prom dress and black heels)
