@msquebanh Good on you, I agree. It was partly why I chose the career that I did, to shatter stereotypes (and because I loved it). I purposely did a lot in the public eye to demonstrate this wasnʼt a white manʼs domain. And in this country at least, theyʼd always be second to me as I pioneered in my fields.
@jackyan It's kinda why I went into sports media for few years but had to quit because of rampant sexual harassment & outright sexual assaults. With no one helping me & being told I should shut the fuck up about all abuses I suffered.
@jackyan Thank you for your kindness & compassion. It's definitely rampant because most women are too scared/burned out & give up fights. Numbers people see in statistics are highly underrepresented because of that fear & most people not reporting because they see what happens to people like me - who refuse to be silent, actively report & try to fight back. They see how we get targeted for refusing to shut up & taking mega hits for doing that. I don't regret fighting back!
@jackyan I literally punched a guy out in a locker room for trying to sexually assault me & was told to be quiet about it because he was chosen to be in the Ultimate Fighter TV show & I'd ruin his career if I spoke out. Then, I was bullied/terrorized for fucking 8 months by his 'buddies' & told if I said anything, I'd be dead & 'really experience rapes' if I tried to fuck up his life. I'm still scared to this fucking day. I hate that.
@msquebanh This behaviour is so foreign to me but there is definitely a toxicity when these misogynist neanderthals gang up that stokes violence. We saw it with Tate and his gormless allies, all of whom think theyʼre tough because they identify with an idiot and alleged rapist and human trafficker. Spineless weaklings, the lot of them, who only feel validated when they threaten women. They otherwise have nothing. Glad you punched that arsehole out. A good strike against the very weakest of men.
@jackyan Thank you for understanding because I was bullied for hitting that misogynistic arsehole in the face & broke his nose. I don't regret doing that to a rapist. I don't regret freaking out at my bosses at the time either for subjecting me to abusive men & telling me to tolerate abuse was part of my job. NO.
@msquebanh@jackyan This is absolutely horrific. I'm so sorry you went through this. I'd like to think that labour laws in this country would address these things, but I experienced harassment far less severe and the corporation faced no consequences.
@jackyan This kind of #POC#fetishizing shit is huge at past & current MMA, kickboxing & any other kind of pro martial arts events. I was usually the only female Asian photog/videographer/interviewer at past combat #sports events. #MMA promoters tried to capitalize on me being a disabled Asian sports media journalist & put me into arenas that I never asked to be in. Then told I'm a prude because I refused to flirt with athletes & refused to go to after parties with them. I'm not a fucking toy.
These #MMA events also had massive racism with a lot of racist white guys saying - I can't be racist because I have an Asian GF 🤡
While, behaving like racist asshats & having their Asian shallow ass dipshit GFs not even recognize their internalized racism to the point some of them got upset at me for telling their fucking shitty misogynistic BFs to never touch me again or I'm going to smash a glass into their fucking faces.
@msquebanh Iʼve definitely come across the fetishizing when Asian women tell me their experiences, all stemming from white male colonial fantasy about the “exotic orient” and that is grounded in misogyny.
