Apple employees at this store said it was the biggest launch since the iPhone X that they could remember. Wonder what has everyone so jazzed this year. Titanium? USB-C?
@christianselig still on the Xr. Will be upgrading to the 15 or SE 4. I suspect many of have been holding out for the upgrade to be worth it. USB-C will be nice.
@christianselig Xs and Xr were split (Xr was late). iPhone 11 and Pro were less exciting and off cycle. Three years of pandemic-dampened launches and then now.
@christianselig in Canada, it might be that Apple and Affirm have gotten their processes pretty solid, opening up much more opportunities and an easier buying experience.
@christianselig For people on the 12 or earlier, it makes sense. For those of us on the 14 (Pro Max in my case), there is literally no major reason to upgrade except to just be on the latest. USB-C is not enough for me.
I'd love to see Apple innovate on their phones instead of these very small incremental updates each year.
@christianselig For me it was the 48MP camera, dynamic island and satellite rescue options coming to the base iPhone. I was happy with my 13 mini, but there were enough small updates over the past two years for it to be worthwhile.
@christianselig they’ve been holding out since the 12 (which was a new design), and their batteries are waning & it doesn’t appear a new design is on the immediate horizon, so… YOLO
@wiredfire@christianselig ding! Ding! Ding! Give the man a cigar! I have an XR and my personal refresh cycle for tech is OS support based. I was able to upgrade to 17, but I imagine that I’ll be upgrading next year.
@christianselig i probably would have waited til 15 had a total crash and burn of my XS had not occurred.
Another force driving Apple Store traffic, carrier stores have decided to stock fewer options beyond the base model. If you want more memory, a different color, they will ship it to you direct- no store pickup.
Apple stores allow preorder AND in store pickup.
Not everyone can wait at home for a delivery, or afford $1000 bucks go missing from their porch.
@christianselig Same in Amsterdam. Line was crazy, even though I pre-ordered I had to wait for ~1h. Staff told me that was the biggest launch they can remember. They mentioned most customer told them USB-C, then titanium 🤷
