Apple employees at this store said it was the biggest launch since the iPhone X that they could remember. Wonder what has everyone so jazzed this year. Titanium? USB-C?

stoicswe,

@christianselig probably USBC if I had to guess

It's release day! 4.2 will drop later today. I'm very excited for all the improvements we've been working on since January to become available to all server operators and their users.

stoicswe,

@Gargron looking forward to it!

Starfield is the best game I’ve ever played.

Ice cream Snickers bar >>> Snickers candy bar

If I have a bunch of old Windows games (circa Windows XP) on CD/DVD, what’s the simplest way to play them on a Linux computer?

I have a USB Blu-ray drive and so plan to rip them to ISOs as a first step, then can mount/uncompress them locally.

I imagine Wine or Proton would be the best route, but the first step is running the installers. Should I do that in something like Bottles? 🤔

stoicswe,

@cassidy I'd think Wine or (if the game is old enough) dosbox might do the trick. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Imagine that you possess all the necessary skills, but you struggle with being proactive. What is the most crucial factor when solving critical problems that may take months (say, writing an app)?

stoicswe,

@nixCraft this happened for me recently at work. Finally got my 1.5 month old branch merged into the main branch, finally completing a very important piece that took along time to figure out how to fix.

Over the years, more organizations have started to offer Linux distributions as they realized the potential for profit. While it is not illegal, I personally prefer to stick with Debian and or RHEL/CentOS and its clones. What is your preferred Linux distribution?

stoicswe,

@nixCraft Ubuntu has been my go-to for awhile now, but I also like Fedora.

Hello, how are you all doing? It's been tough lately. It all started with COVID-19 and the resulting financial crisis. The recession has already begun, and even though some tech companies have plenty of money, they are letting go of employees because of that. Additionally, many jobs in tech, IT, dev stuff, writing/copywriting, and more are being replaced by AI technology. So what new skills are you learning to keep yourself employed for the next 20 years? Please comment below. TIA.

stoicswe,

@nixCraft I've been brushing up skills on C++ and a lot of architectural design (for software architecture) skills and making sure I have a lot of domain knowledge in my area. A lot of the software I write is lower-level microservices for the electric grid.

Hello everyone! I’m Nathaniel, software developer (and avid coffee addict) by day and by night a pretty active gamer (lately it’s been World of Warcraft). My favorite drink is an old fashioned. 🍻 I joined mastodon to see what this open source platform is like. Cheers all! Happy to be here!
