smashed my Pixel 4a screen - repairing it costs the same as a replacement refurb phone (!) Would prefer to buy something more recent for longevity but phones are so big - the newer Pixels are all bigger. Any suggestions for smaller phones? Camera is my top priority

@joelanman MKBHD recommended Asus Zenfone 9.

@joelanman Noooooooooooooo! Feel your pain on this as I did exactly the same.

The availability of decent but not super-expensive-flagship small phones is rubbish.

The 7a is just under a cm taller, I think. So it's not a lot in the grand scheme but I hate the size creep.

I bought myself another second hand 4a in the end off backmarket. Sadly the battery life isn't as good as my old one, so I remain in this limbo hoping for a new smallish midrange to come out before it dies...

@sarajw yeh! The 4a is already too big, contributing to how I dropped it

@joelanman There are smaller ones but often with poor screen res and not much storage. Maybe I need to be less picky.

I really miss my Huawei P9 - by far the best mobile camera I've used - really nice proper bokeh. Really sad that they lost Google support

@joelanman I'd have a look at the 7a. I don't notice the size getting bigger over time (I had the same thing about phone size too) but my 7 is awesome and the 7a is smaller and has a higher-spec camera. Try it

occhiolist,

@joelanman i got an iphone 13 mini, the last reasonably sized (i)phone

robinwhittleton,

@joelanman 13 Minis are available refurb on the other side now; not going to find anything that small with a decent camera and Android realistically. https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/product/FLK53B/A/refurbished-iphone-13-mini-256gb-midnight-sim-free

@robinwhittleton thanks yeh was just looking, but the price difference is massive! I've never been comfortable walking around with >£500 in my pocket to get broken or stolen
