@GottaLaff that's how our system works. All house members vote on the speaker. The speaker doesn't decide what is introduced. Anyone can introduce a private members bill however they rarely go anywhere.

@GottaLaff If you're stressed, overworking your eyes, flying in planes, etc., your eyes often get too dry and that in itself is exhausting. A moist heat eye mask, amazon has a million of them, can make a HUGE difference.
@GottaLaff Of course the repubs won't go for this. Cause chaos and they hate everyone. But, it's good positioning on the part of Jeffries. The reasonable party that wants to actually get things done vs. the bomb throwers.
@GottaLaff he knows they will never partner with Dems, it would mean political death for them. But he strategically takes away any finger pointing toward his side of the aisle for not doing anything. I feel Pelosi-style 3D chess moves here.
@dingodog19@horen@GottaLaff there are a dozen or so Republicans from districts that Biden won so in theory it could happen with someone who wants to showcase their bipartisan commitment to governing. But hard to see anyone willing to try it. They might as well switch parties if they did.
@WarnerCrocker@GottaLaff I suspect this is nothing but political brinksmanship on Jeffries' part. He knows that any choice Republicans make will be a bad one. Politically speaking--and only politically speaking--all choices are probably win win for the Dem messaging. Effectively though, the choices are pretty bad.
Most likely they'll go with Scalise after worming some false promises from each other.
But if they don't, and the shutdown drags on in front of us all - eventually the self-servers in swing-states might be persuaded to vote for a non-magat.
