I have a YouTube Premium subscription, yet I received a message stating that Ad Blockers are not allowed on YouTube. WTF? What am I supposed to do now? I don't watch much YouTube, but I have a low-cost bundle with YouTube Music, which I use the most.
@nixCraft Even if you have a premium subscription you still need to whitelist YouTube because YouTube automatically will block you if they detect an ad blocker.
Since you have premium you won't see any ads anyway.
@nixCraft I figured they were going to start doing that. :drgn_sigh: They're not just waging a war on YouTube adblocking, they're waging a war in general. I have a feeling that same notification is going to start popping in on more of their garbage services.
@nixCraft I'm waiting for them to implement this in India. Probably they won't soon. If they do, a big chunk of users will switch to NewPipe & FreeTube instantly 😂 this will surely affect their business
@nixCraft The honest answer is to pack up and leave Youtube entirely - cancel your subscription and move to something like Tidal.
Bugs or not, mistakes or not, Google is making it clear that they won't allow us mortals to use their precious service without getting ads shoved down our throats. There's only one way to convince them otherwise, and that's to hurt their bottom line.
Google is just becoming very aggressive, or there is a bug in their detection system. I will give them the benefit of the doubt this time. As someone who worked in the software field for many moons, I know bugs exist.
@nixCraft I read other complaints on Mastodon over the weekend about YouTube vs ad blockers. Sounded more like a "feature" than a bug from the way they described it.
