Well. I’m not always a Biden fan and I have been feeling bleak about the situation in Israel and Gaza. Reading this and seeing how Biden handled being in Israel made me tremendously proud to have voted for him for President. Gift access: https://wapo.st/46FS651

@heidilifeldman
The article is dire propaganda.
Biden's priorities:
"Mr Biden also said $100m (£82m) in US funding would be be allocated to support Palestinian civilians.
A source familiar with the matter told Reuters news agency the US president was considering asking Congress for $10bn in aid for Israel as soon as Friday."
That's 100 times as much aid to the Israeli occupation than to relief for Palestinians.

Corrected text, I mistyped 10 for 100 before, despite calculating 100x.

@heidilifeldman people can say what they will but Biden understands the pain of loss and his empathy to the bereaved is sincere.

nicky_james,

@heidilifeldman this is the America I want to be a part of -- one present on the world stage, leading with compassion and thought

@heidilifeldman He’s a true Statesman. I voted for him because I knew he would do what is right for the American people. He has done an amazing job.

@heidilifeldman I’m a huge Biden fan but seeing him hugging Netanyahu and pleading UNCONDITIONAL support?? Why is the U.S offering unconditional support to anyone????

Alas, not everyone is proud:

“The response Israel is taking, and with it the American support both for that response and for the status quo of the occupation, will only lead to more and deeper suffering for both the Israeli and the Palestinian people.” The Biden administration’s “blind support for one side” was leading to policy decisions that were “shortsighted, destructive, unjust and contradictory to the very values we publicly espouse”.

MistyAtBoulder,

@heidilifeldman Historically, I’ve self-identified as more “anti-R” than as a Dem because Ds are less liberal than I am. But as I age, I better appreciate Dems as the party committed to governing and to trying. If being a Dem means standing in the path of the “burn it down” crowd, then that’s where I live now.

I would love to go further left on health care and taxation and privacy and energy policy, but I have lived thru voters going hard Right when we move too fast. 😢

amassey_22,

@heidilifeldman thank you

emynarnon,

@heidilifeldman I was listening to the speech this morning and found it very moving.

Biden has, in general, exceeded my expectations, especially on social matters and macro economics. Also by strengthening our alliances (eg NATO). But he doesn’t say much about the suffering of the Palestinians, at least not that’s quoted in the article. I wish he would be more vocal about that and tell Israel that the US will not continue to support it if it commits war crimes.

@heidilifeldman thank you for the gift access. Trump would have been monstrous in this situation. I'm not impressed nor surprised he is following a long history of American presidents whom have been the worst type of friends to Israel. The ones who don't tell you the hard difficult and uncomfortable truths and enable your most destructive behaviours. It's the opposite of moral courageous leadership.

@heidilifeldman under-rated president. I didn’t vote for him, but would have if I were still able to vote in US elections.

BartVr,

@heidilifeldman did i read that article wrong or is he supporting genocide and stealing land?

@heidilifeldman I voted for him but had no expectations. He has done some miraculous work that we never hear about in the press. He had a nation to save. I am more than impressed and grateful for his service and compassion.

@Dr_Elizabeth97 I also admire the diplomatic steps he and Blinken have accomplished so far. Very, very difficult situation, and even small measures are meaningful.

@heidilifeldman Also not a huge Biden fan, but this situation plays to his genuine strengths. I admire his willingness to take a risk to try to reduce some of the harm.

    @Terris Biden is more conservative than I am on many issues. I particularly wish he would have fought for DC statehood and other democracy-protective measures. @CptSuperlative
