@justinling Gaza is not Iraq. Gaza is like an hypotetical Afghanistan where the population voted and supported Al-Qaeda.
Please tell me how do you reason with that?

@gianlucafiore The Taliban never ran in any Afghani elections. The depressing thing is: If they did, they would garner support.

The last time Palestinians went to the polls was 2006. Even then, only a plurality supported Hamas' party.

I think trying to frame the conflict around that one election really skews things.

@justinling every country, democratic, is governed by relative majorities that form coalitions to become absolute, so I do not see your point about the plurality.

And nonetheless, every country takes responsibilities for their elected, Russia with Putin, USA with Trump, Israel with Netanyahu. Thus I see no reason to remove any blame from Palestinians for Hamas. Their election was the key event that caused what we are seeing, so it skews things NOT to consider it.
