I'd rather give $16 to you @jan than Elon Musk or Mark Zuckerberg. That way, I know my money will be used towards the platform instead of just sitting in a Billionaire's shiny little Piggy Bank! 🤣🤣🤣
@jan
Well that is not correct! We must support with £€$¥ mastodon admins and developers for this to work.
I can get my own instance for a fraction of the twitter price and there are benefits in mutulaliation it can be even cheaper but Mastodon for $0 does not work @PeteLittle1970
@jan would like to make a donation for my server mastodon.online, but not via Patreon or any other US-based service.
Why?
I simply don't trust these greedy companies at all, especially as I know they are biased who they support or not. I know a bad example.
I would like to donate with a normal bank transfer as we know it in Europe.
@jan Thanks, but for many admins and instance owners Mastodon ad free = $nnn+/month That’s why many rely on donations or ,like our instance, deliver Mastodon 💩free for $9,- a year. I would like to shout out rather than a shoot out for all instance owners in the form of heading to your instance’s donation page to make sure it will never have to go the route of advertisement ever. 🥳
@jan infra costs our instance $0.22/mo per active user, or $0.06/mo per account. We've got some super generous users who donate far more than that, making it effectively cost-free for all the rest 👌
@trendless@jan
When I look at the financial statement of the instance I use at https://meta.chaos.social/money#report, make some assumptions and do ballpark calculations, it is about 0,08€ per month and account.
So my yearly donation is good for more than 60 accounts. Or assuming a similar ratio of 1/3 of active users, I sponsor about 20 accounts. Feels good.
