@iuculano Thanks Joe, I have a dozen tabs open, as I read Halifax Municipality pages and the amount of meetings, raises, bad decisions and the proposed Tax increase, while furiously typing.
I can't go for groceries, without breaking down in tears. All the homeless that upset police and council have been moved 4 minutes from my door, between my driveway and my weekly grocery pickup. COUNCILLORS aren't crying,, OUT OF SIGHT, OUT OF MIND, next Agenda Item talk, Not helping

housepanther,

@Rasta @iuculano The reckless disregard for the environment both angers and saddens me. All that fossil fuel burnt and for what?

Time for chocolate chip pancakes.

housepanther,

@StillIRise1963 Sounds like a very nice treat.

housepanther,

@StillIRise1963 I once did a dessert burrito. I took a cooled pancake and stuffed it with vanilla ice creal.

I'm beginning to wonder if Firefox has an issue with ebay. It won't let me open a tab. Also, Open Office must be a new version because none of my documents are in it...damn, that means I'm going to have to transfer them over via usb from the old laptop. Honestly, I've had nowt but problems since podding out a considerable sum for this new laptop and it's WORSE than my old one when I first got that. I found my diary for when I got the old laptop and yeh, it says "new laptop, what a ballache setting up"...but that was EASY compared with this one. Technology "improvements" don't seem to be awfully people-friendly.

housepanther,

@Judeet88 I used to use Open Office but switched to Libre. I had a lot of problems with Open.

You can't be okay under fascism. One wrong move, you're fucked. You don't have to look like me to lose everything.

housepanther,

@StillIRise1963 Even so much as thinking can get one in trouble under fascism.

Does anybody know of a good website for resume assistance? Mine is awful right now and needs to be completely re-written.

I wonder now I might have had RSV. Of course the shitty urgent care that I went to never tested me for that. They only tested me for the flu and COVID. I seem to have this nagging dry cough that won't go away.

mahal, to climate

Vulnerable Forum, huh? Sure, reparations are one part of climate justice, but do you people know who and what you're enabling by letting these politicians parade around in for their little political PR gambits?

The Maldives? Sure, the place will become uninhabitable sooner or later, but as of right now, there isn't anything that needs "funding" for "climate justice" there.

You know what does destroy the environment in the country? Dredging projects, mangrove destruction, converting natural preserves into concrete wastelands, excessive plastics, the list goes on.

You know who's doing that? Not the big bad west, but our own politicians — all of them, all these parties, ALL OF THEM — and their corporate friends and their foreign investor buddies.

You know what'll stop them? Maybe stop giving them a platform to fucking go on PR stunts and stop fucking giving them money. You want to give money to someone? Give it to the UN. Give it to Canada after the wildfires. Give it to conservation orgs.

Billions of fucking dollars, to politicians?

Of course that is what you get when these shitty fucking Coppers project is spearheaded by a CEO of an company. And our politicians are praising him. PRAISING. STOP LETTING THEM PLAY VICTIM.

housepanther,

@mahal In my mind, nationalism and patriotism are not healthy things when forced upon somebody. In most cases, these two concepts have the connotation that the country can do no wrong and that one should support the country unconditionally. Um, yeah, NO!

housepanther,

@msquebanh This is very well intended and the volunteers are to be commended for doing more work than to help than government. That much said, I hope the volunteers are taking up the fight with government. Nobody should be homeless .... nobody.

housepanther,

@msquebanh Compared to , Canada is practically a bastion for social welfare systems. It's dismaying to see these systems steadily being dismantled though.

I think I may need to put my resume out there in the New Year. I didn't have a good week at work and I am in over my head. I'm concerned that a termination is in my future and I'd like to have my ducks in a row in case that happens. I have a lot of planning and work to do. I might also have to move to cheaper living arrangements as well.

housepanther, to random

I am reminded today of how precarious life in the United States is. Most people who work for a living are one or two paychecks away from homelessness.

housepanther, to linux

At least today, I managed to learn a lot. Prior to today, I never had a need to use or logical volume management. So today, I had to learn how to do a Linux install with LVM. Let's just say I am an LVM convert now. I had no idea just how powerful it really is.

housepanther, to random

Capitalism is pure and simple insanity. I work all day only to be able to afford a place to stay for, at most an hour or two to enjoy out of the day. The rest of the time is spent asleep or at work. What kind of life is this?

housepanther, to linux

Tonight I'm going to muster up the energy to work on my book on . It's been a dream of mine to be a tech author. Now's my opportunity. I'm probably going to write it non-linearly. I have an outline already made up but I feel like writing the chapter for DNS Servers. I'm going to write the chapters as I feel like writing them or what interests me at the moment rather than try to sit down and figure out an introduction, a preface, etc. if I can make a goal of 1-3 pages a day, I think it will be very possible.

bughuntercat, to Autism

Sometimes, many times, I have felt like a kind of Gulliver in Lilliput. I know that talking about high intellectual abilities makes one be considered arrogant, but in reality it is not. There is a tendency to believe that people who have one deficiency, or several, are disabled or limited and need help.
But if you have a high IQ, if wherever you go you have been given dozens of tests and they all confirm that you are a brain monster, then it is assumed that you have no problem, that your intelligence is more than enough to live in this world. And it surely is so. But when one has other concomitant conditions, everything changes. That is double exceptionality, a genius who does not seem like it because he is autistic. And an autistic who doesn't look like it because he is very intelligent.
And do you know what it feels like on this side? Frustration and desire for isolation. It becomes difficult to relate to someone. And I don't need people to be especially intelligent, in fact many of my friends and loved ones have been almost illiterate.
For such a person, solitude and anonymity are more comfortable than a life of relationship.

housepanther,

@bughuntercat Mastodon is kind of a refuge for people who hate traditional social media and have found that traditional social media is hate-riddled, arbitrary, and capricious.
