I struggle to articulate it, but something I really dig about post-Twitter-world is: I just do not know about every single game that comes out, or books/movies/etc.

I still have channels that float up some good lil stuffs, but I can be surprised by media again! I can appreciate mid games because I didn't watch influencers rag on them for 3 weeks.

I feel like I'm forming my own opinions again. Which makes me double take all, um, wait how long had Twitter been feeding me my opinions. Shit. Well that's not good.

@glassbottommeg the hate algo was wild, people had incredibly strong opinions on games they had never even seen someone ELSE play let alone played...usually before they came out

As someone who enjoys a lot of indie western and low budget japanese games I'm glad not to see the BS

Haven't seen any games get Undertaled on here either

@glassbottommeg I think you articulated it very well, and…yep I feel the same way.

Like I just randomly stumbled into The Creator as part of a double-feature at a drive-in. We had no idea what it was, I just saw sci-fi and went "hey cool!". Figured it was some tiny budget indie thing.

Turns out oh shit, no, that was a HUGE movie. Done quite cheaply compared to usual, sure, but star studded, huge director etc. And I had no idea. Never even saw a trailer.

That's FANTASTIC.

Where that makes me a bit um, concerned, is well- how effective is my marketing reach now? Can I still get my game in front of people? Could I pull off another SkateBIRD?

Whooooo fuckin knooooows

So sure, that's nerve wracking. But also. As a human being I feel a lot better. I would much rather find a way to make this work without creating another Marketing Torment Nexus, you know?

@glassbottommeg When I was feeling trepidation about canceling my Twitter account right as I was contemplating releasing an indie game, the thought I kept coming back to was, "Are the people on Twitter even the audience I want to reach?"

Niches are good because they mean you're still saying something, and to an audience that isn't just buying it but really appreciating it.

jamesvanas,

@glassbottommeg I’m in the same boat.

One one hand, my media reach seems to now be about 10 people. Terrible for upcoming game marketing.

On the other, I saw and thought the Creator rocked, before I could see the rest of the internet was bagging on it for no good reason 😅

Seeing films "blind" is awesome and really hard to do now.
At least with books you can just grab something at random off of the library shelf.

@glassbottommeg It's proper Gibsonian cyberpunk with unexplained tech, body-mod, inner city sleaze, trans-machine racism, "the street finds it's own uses uses...", etc. Just a great movie.

@glassbottommeg I loved that film.
