I got a new iPhone and transferred across my data using the direct copy between phones option

I want to wipe the old phone now, but I'm paranoid there may be something that got missed. I've run into problems with 2FA apps in the past but those seem to be working OK

Anything else I should worry about?

Exmath,

@simon any authenticator apps?

@simon Pro tip: Sync your 2FA using eg @1password (yeah, it becomes simply OTP then, but OTP is the important part of 2FA)

Also: Encrypted chat apps does not always carry over, lost some neat content to that 😞

And: Here in Sweden one needs to be wary about BankID, the electronic identification, and it doesn’t carry across either.

And you have to re-register your Apple Pay cards, right? And will then get new hidden card numbers for them

medecau,

@simon signal, if you use signal and want to copy things over you need to take care of that one ad hoc - it’s also going to take a very long time so schedule that for overnight

@simon I have a banking app that managed to exclude itself from the transfer process.

@simon keep the old on in a drawer for a week or two to make sure you can go qbcknif need be. Also go through each page on your Home Screen and consider each app. But then still don’t earase for a bit.

@simon I did the same, wiped my old phone immediately, realised my error and panicked. As it happens... everything has been fine. So, actually, maybe you don't need to worry!

@simon make sure you sign out of iCloud properly after also switching off Find My

@simon banking apps, crypto wallets and apps, chat apps. Depending on where you live, the country issued ID app

@simon after checking your 2FA logins, check every app that requires you to log into the app. Check whether any files in nonstandard locations were transferred; they might need to be transferred manually. Were all apps installed, or are there some apps that weren't copied over?

moof,

@simon chat app history. Signal and WhatsApp are both potential pain issues. Also, any digital certificate-based apps, but that’s admittedly a niche issue.

Sounds like the most important things to consider are end-to-end encrypted messaging apps like Signal, which have their own transfer process

@simon I would double-check any apps that are no longer in the app store that might still be on your old phone.

I had a few games that fit into that category that would still run just fine, but would not re-download for idk reasons.

@simon are there any old apps on your old phone that are no longer in the App Store? They won’t transfer over and their user data, if any, will be gone.

joeldrapper,

@simon Signal. You need to use their built-in process to transfer to your new phone.

drsbaitso,

@simon Secure(ish) chat apps? I had a problem where WhatsApp didn't move history correctly.
