Google search is now filled with rubbish before you even get to the search results. Google podcast is shutting down an app it doesnt even need to shut down and could still run it but instead closing it up all together by forcing to cut off the feeds service.

Getting a bit sick of google now. But funny my only other option for a phone OS is Apple and here in lies the monopoly.

moof,
@moof@cupoftea.social avatar

@Whiskeyomega I made the jump to iOS very early on when I got tired of fragmentation and ridiculous OS bootloader problems leaving my phone camera unusable for 6 months because the manufacturer wouldn’t release an OS update for the European market. Apple has its downsides, but I am not regretting making it my main mobile OS at all.

I think my older AirPods v2 are dying. I can barely get any volume out of them any more. When I use my AirPod pros I can hear them loud and clear but I don’t like them as much, they never stay in my ears.

Hate to spend rhe money on a new fresh set of AirPods (non Pros) but i can barely hear what I’m listening to anymore. Boo! 🫠

moof,
@moof@cupoftea.social avatar

@gedeonm getting them looked at by Apple Support, either in the Support app, or at an Apple Store, is generally cheaper than buying new ones. I’ve had several sets of AirPods Pro replaced for free - without AppleCare+.

But try cleaning out the mesh with a toothbrush and some alcohol first.

if you wanted to set up a “British restaurant” abroad, to which people would go to, much like they go to an Indian or Chinese restaurant, what dishes would you include on the menu as quintessential British gastronomy?

moof,
@moof@cupoftea.social avatar

I’ll go first:

  • Shepherd’s pie
  • Lancashire Hot-Pot
  • Ploughman’s lunch
  • Roast pork with crackling and roast potatoes
moof,
@moof@cupoftea.social avatar

@bencc general roasts is a thing, maybe the Sunday special carvery.

Sweet dishes are a must in a British restaurant. An afternoon tea with scones definitely needs doing.

Treacle tart. Chocolate Fudge Cake is a must. Maybe Banoffee pie. Seasonal mince pies, Christmas cake, hot cross buns, simnel cake… and maybe a cake of the month on other occasions

But… Angel Delight? Not something I’d have considered…

moof,
@moof@cupoftea.social avatar

@quixoticgeek @bencc I’m pretty certain we could order a pork joint with skin at my butchers. Feel free to remind me of this when you next visit.

Today, the social media’s remind me that the actor who portrays John Connor in Terminator 2 is called Edward Furlong.

Given he was a teenager at the time, I’m pretty sure there is a Furlongs per Fortnite pun to be made somewhere….

Yesterday I had a wonderfully gleeful drive back from the conference by introducing a Gen Z cab driver who invited me to play my own music in his car to the Jeff Wayne version of War of the Worlds.

From the "wait, it's not the soundtrack to the film", to the awe when Teófilo Martinez started the initial speech - "I know that voice from somewhere, like, old-time movies...", to the expletive I got when the strings started playing, to the amazement that this was 1970s music...

It's the little things...

Four day weekend has begun. Am starting it with a trip the the supermarket, cos I fucked up the grocery delivery earlier this week.

Shopping while hungry. What could possibly go wrong...

moof,
@moof@cupoftea.social avatar

@quixoticgeek I just popped over to the supermarket for just some soft drinks to tide me through the weekend. I appear to have spent 70€. Have some beef to sous-vide though.

How is it still so cold. Its 7c here late march !

moof,
@moof@cupoftea.social avatar

@Whiskeyomega how is it so hot? It’s 24C here in the shade in late march!

moof,
@moof@cupoftea.social avatar

@Whiskeyomega yup. But 15, maybe the odd day of 18 is a reasonable temperature for this part of the year. It shouldn’t be short sleeves weather yet.

Having just watched : Part Two, I can definitely state it’s worth watching in the cinema. It lived up to the promise of Part 1.

I've seen more posts about the fediverse's spam problem than I have actual spam posts. From this I infer that the TopSpicy mods are doing a bang-up job.

@A_C_McGregor I can add the same for the wonderful mods. I have yet to actually see a piece of spam. Thanks @Whiskeyomega!

In a Customs agency webinar. The way that they go on about how they've replaced all the EDI declarations with XML via SOAP as if it were cutting edge technology is at the very least amusing.

Also Companies: don't contact you when things are delayed, or there are issues.
Also Companies: either don't respond or directly don't have customer service

moof,
@moof@cupoftea.social avatar

@kaia “A Prayer for the Crown-Shy” by Becky Chambers. But buy it quick- I’ve only got 13 minutes reading time left! Also, it’s book two in the Monk and Robot series, so maybe this is not the book to do that with…

Vendors putting the encoding and internationalisation infrastructure of your accounts payable system to the test by including a Ñ as part of the invoice number.

moof,
@moof@cupoftea.social avatar

And yes, my integration systems correctly interpreted the Ñ in the invoice number. On closer inspection, it's throwing an error for an entirely different reason. Let's see if you can spot it from this partial screenshot.
