podperson,

Most of the folks styling themselves as are in fact just parasites and free riders.

They’re essentially like the 1920s bank robbers who discovered they could rob banks with impunity but rather than just hide from the cops and enjoy the loot the tech bros delude themselves that ignoring the law is a political philosophy despite that fact that it is other people obeying the law that makes the things they steal valuable.

podperson,

E.g. Uber basically just operates a taxi service that ignores regulations on taxis, labor laws, and so forth. (During its heyday it also ignored regulations on sexual assault as well and had remote kill switches to destroy records in the event of police raids).

Despite all this it still doesn’t actually make money from operations but pretty much operates as a Ponzi scheme enriching its players with investor money.

Should these kinds of “libertarian” geniuses run a country?

podperson,

There are tech giants run by actual geniuses who deliver real goods and services for reasonable prices. But weirdly you don’t see Sergey Brin, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Tim Cook, or (when he was alive) Steve Jobs claiming to have reinvented political theory.

If anything they are quite reticent when it comes to discussing things outside their domains.
