40-core GPU version of M3 Max dropping GPU benchmarks comparable to RTX 4080!

I’ll be expecting an upcoming Mac Mini with M3 Ultra with 80 core GPU that’ll make nVidia shit themselves.

@dgar Unlikely, since Nvidia is largely focused on cloud and embedded AI and rendering - and apple doesn't even dogfood their own systems as servers.

In the end, it’s where you get the most power per watt, and if the numbers add up, solutions will be available.

@dgar Maybe, but as much of a fan of ARM as I may be, apple has never been able to scale beyond personal.

If we're lucky, AMD and apple will eventually collaborate and drive nvtel straight out to the bin.

@dgar But do recall that the IBM/Motorola PPC chips were some of the best silicon on the planet, literally a baby version of the stuff IBM used in minis and mainframes and apple dumped it in favor of Intel to save a buck.

They did that xserve thing for a while. I’m not much interested in their future, or lack of, in the server space. I am pretty excited about playing with Blender and Unreal Engine 5 with real hardware acceleration on not-windows, and without spending $100/minute on powering the GPU.
