that pile of stuff that builds up between car lanes at the intersections on @bikeloudpdx

I'm trying for a quick sweep so we can figure out how to get some good coverage of the network, leafblower is moderately useful, something needs to unstick the piles of junk though

sweeping up a hill, e-bike motor running, leafblower engaged

@enobacon Nice. Having a clear & intact roadway is just part of the battle. Can’t tell you how many times my bike discovered a giant hole that my spine did not appreciate. The sides of most roadways around here are full of debris & parts from motor vehicles (including glass). Even if you ride in the lane off to the right, it’s helpful to have a few feet of clear space to avoid stuff & oversize trucks etc.

#PBOT employees have to run street sweepers at night or they would get stuck in / interfere with #pdxTraffic #congestion #CarsRuinCities

c/w audio is trashy like my bike lanes... front view / before

rear view / results. I hope this scrubbed-loose stuff will dry out. The stuff I went over yesterday was looking pretty good even after/because it rained last night.

bristle brush and leafblower going, downhill at 8mph-ish, some of the stuck down layered leaves are getting disturbed and maybe flipped over, some blown off to the side, some picked up

Drag a bike lane sweeper around with you while running errands and leave the place nicer than you found it.

@enobacon I was thinking about this the other day while I was out and about. Obviously it won't work on ice. But did you get a chance to test it out when the snow was still powder?

enobacon,
@enobacon@urbanists.social avatar

@Karstan I don't have it right now, don't know if it was tested but it would probably cake up. They're working on a side sweeping model that might be useful for that (but you wouldn't want to leave bare asphalt under the ice, that would make it slicker.)

Karstan,
@Karstan@urbanists.social avatar

@enobacon Yeah, I was thinking along those lines. I was wondering what a little plow attachment might look like but I'm not sure it would work for 2 wheels?

enobacon,
@enobacon@urbanists.social avatar

@Karstan would need to be a tow behind plow, which I've been thinking would also get some use vs the leaf piles I was fighting in November. There's also the zigo trike though, if I could find a good way to motorize it, the front frame would offer some nice mounting options.
